    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

Its obviously most cost effective when your a small company to focus your resources to where the high populous is.... that does little for persons or business that needs to venture out of those areas.

I have had Verizon before they were verizon... there were two other carriers before them in the northwest where I was before they bought each other out with verizon being the last buyer..... Because of verizon buying so many cell sites and then upgrading and maintaining them.. they get the best coverage and cost the most. I have about a 25 year history with them in that sense of the explanation.

I"m starting to hear ads where at&t claim best coverage... thats such a general statement without specifics of what "best" means and what "coverage" means, its hard to pen them down for a lawsuit about the ad.

At any rate...I like Verizon, I just think they need to loosen up there network a bit to match then new technology they are releasing.

My Dare will take one picture that is so big I can't even send it... not to mention video. I can't send more than 160 characters in text and streaming video is still not available.

Verizon "being the big boy on the block" could really take the market by storm if they would look ahead.. but they keep playing catchup and letting others take the risks and work out the bugs.
In one sense, thats good for verizon... whereas the other companies that are more hungry and need more razzle dazzle to compete and those competitors could steal the show.... and "do" steal the show for urban dwellers.

It almost reminds me of Microsoft verses Apple.

And the current economic state almost seems to not affect the cellular industry; the stores are still mobbed, new stuff is coming out all the time, and people are still robust about their cell phones.

Next time you go to the mall, when you get near the entrance, notice what 11 out of 10 people are doing as they get ready to exit, or are walking down that corridor to the exit : checking their cel phone for something, a call, text, message, whatever...

The only reason we even have a land line in my house is because the alarm needs to go through it...

That is my issue with the Storm. I really don't need Internet browsing, I need to be able to organize things and minimize the electronic devices I carry around with me and of course, make a phone call. I just canít justify the extra $30 a month Iím forced to pay just to have a Blackberry.

Might be time to look into changing service providers. I live in the New York area so Iím pretty sure all the carriers have coverage. Maybe itís time to leave Verizon and look into an iPhone.

Just keep a couple of things in mind; if you travel at all check out the coverage maps for all the providers (or the other ones you're considering), make sure the I-phone does all the syncing, etc. you need, and one thing that's huge...you can NOT change the battery in the I-Phone yourself if it goes dead, an Apple location has to do it for you. Doesn't sound too convenient if you ask me.

I don't know anything really about the I-Phone, and I never got sucked into it, but I do know that much about the battery. From what I've read, it's a cool media phone, and application(s) phone.

Only you, though, will know what works best for you. Good luck!!

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I live and travel in somewhat remote areas and love to maintain full services when I travel or vacation.
Without those those considerations, I would say Verizon definitely does not have the market cornered with all the other fancy features other providers are offering.

I think Verizon does have the capability to step ahead and maintain that lead with their strength and money, but they may possibly see some immediate profit loss is their fear, but I think it would prevent the flourishing of all the competition thats popping up... Maybe I'm giving them too much credit.... Like its easy to think Microsoft could do the same... Apple keeps coming up with some good angles they don't think about.

I too have set aside my pda and have even gotten to where I don't keep my pda and outlook database updated like I should but rather just have my phone numbers in my Dare.

Sometimes I have to "cheat" and put extra info like names etc in the email section and add a "@.com" after it so it will keep or even add it after the contact name if it will fit.. it gets ridiculous...

But I really do need that extra ability... I carry login info, directions, extension numbers, department head names, and other info that pertains to that specific contact that I cannot do in my dare unless I keep a separate note in the notebook area.

As soon as I get the chance, I may be going to something like the Storm.. whats kept me away before is that their funky cameras they've always had... but now since they are getting the message.. I really "really" like having all my stuff in one location and database.

Verizon is going to have to up the number of contacts they are able to sync with from 500 to at least a 1000... or make it where it will sync with outlook.
My Dare will hold 1000 contacts and backup assistant is only good for 500... I'm already over 300 and counting.

As far as the landline....Its quite the umbilical cord... something you've always had since birth... but once you make the break... you won't miss it at all unless your in the unique situation where you honestly spend allot of time on local calls from your house.
I live in a rural area and it seemed virtually most of my calls were outside of the local area anyway....
We used to think we would need it for some kind of "emergency".... chances are.. I can get to me cellphone easier than my landline... and they can't cut the cord.
Verizon is so rock solid on their network.... I never worry about them being down too.... if a tornado or hurricane comes along.. its anybodys guess as to which service would go down first anyway.

It was wonderful to cut them loose and lose the associated taxes, fees, and surcharges that came every month with a service that actually offered very little practice service.
In a world where we all love cordless phones .. the landlines are on the way out.

Cellphones like the Dare are adding more and more features and abilities for cheaper and fulfilling more and more needs, while the landline sits at a standstill doing nothing and charging more, quivering in the corner waiting to die.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I experienced a battery problem during my christmas getaway, i was in Atlantic City N.J. at Harrah's casino and the battery in my Dare which usually last a week, went dead overnight before morning.

At 11PM my battery was at full strength, after waking up at 6AM, i reached for phone to check the time, i found my phone was shut off. I turned my phone back on and found the low battery indicator on, my battery was drained, this never happened to me before.

At first my dead battery was a anomaly, but then realizing my reception was extremely poor which was also a anomaly since reception in AC hotels are never a problem, especially in hotel towers, and i was on the 29th floor.

I was staying at Harrah's new waterfront tower for the first time and realized the entire tower (both sides) is also a neon light show which can be seen from miles away, this prabaley hinder my signal strength.

Even standing near the window of the room, my reception was poor, the point of the story is, if your in a poor signal area, be prepare for a battery drained, the constant effort of keeping connected/reception will kill your battery.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I knew that was true for the digital/analouge phones because the battery usage would go from a normal .2 amps when in digital mode to .6 amps when in analouge mode.

But I wasn't aware the full digital phones used any more energy when seeking a signal?

I am amazed however in how much video I can do without my battery going down at all!

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I've had my Dare for only a couple of days but I've noticed a problem (more like an annoyance that's a problem for me) that no one else has mentioned, so maybe others aren't having the same issue or it's an easy fix and I can't seem to figure it out. The issue is whenever I get a call the phone will ring and then say 'Verizon Wireless' out loud, then continue to ring and continue to say 'Verizon Wireless'. I've tried different ring tones with the same problem so it's not related to a specific ring tone. Sometimes it says it before the phone starts to ring sometimes after. It also says it sometimes when I end a call or power on or exit a menu, it's somewhat random and annoying as hell. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there anything I can do to get rid out it and make it stop. I know who my service provider is, it says so right on the phone incase I forget, they don't need to remind me every five minutes. It also reads 'Verizon Wireless' above the banner, anyway I can get rid of that?

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

You need to show it to a tech at a verizon store.... at the very least, they will reflash the firmware..... otherwise, give you another phone.
P.S. Make sure you have your contacts backed up with the backup assistant!

I found it doesn't like having the power/charger plugged in while its in the act of booting up.... it tends to kill it all together. I have to wait for it to bootup before I can plugin the charger..... no big deal..... just thought I'd mention it in case some tech wanted to address it with the next firmware update.
