Oprah Winfrey Gives Cars to Audience

Talk show host Oprah Winfrey celebrated the premiere of her 19th season Monday by surprising each of her 276 audience members with a new car.

"We're calling this our wildest dream season, because this year on the Oprah show, no dream is too wild, no surprise too impossible to pull off," Winfrey said.

Making sure the audience was kept in suspense, Winfrey opened the show by calling 11 audience members onto the stage. She gave each of them a car a Pontiac G6.

She then had gift boxes distributed to the rest of the audience and said one of the boxes contained keys to a twelfth car. But when the audience members opened the boxes, each had a set of keys.

"Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car!" Winfrey yelled as she jumped up and down on the stage.

The audience members screamed, cried and hugged each other then followed Winfrey out to the parking lot of her Harpo Studios to see their Pontiacs, all decorated with giant red bows.

Winfrey said the audience members were chosen because their friends or family had written to the show about their need for a new car. One woman's young son said she drove a car that "looks like she got into a gunfight"; another couple had almost 400,000 miles on their two vehicles.

In other segments on the show, Winfrey surprised a 20-year-old girl who had spent years in foster care and homeless shelters with a four-year college scholarship, a makeover and $10,000 in clothes. And a family with eight foster children who were going to be kicked out of the house they were renting were given $130,000 to buy and repair the home.

this has to fall in the category of most ballingest acts ever. who cares if they're pontiacs? all these rappers talkin about bein able to dispense cars like nothin, but its oprah who shows em all up

See More: oprah is a baller.

Ahh Oprah Winfrey...The woman who can buy anything in the world.....

Thats good for the people who got the cars and stuff...But i still know Oprah is fake :cough:

Well since i like cars....no really i do
Ill just show some basic facts about the G6....

    - MSRP Range:* $21,300.00 - $23,925.00
    - 3.5 Liter V6 engine spitting 200 hp at 5400 rpm with 220 lb.-ft. of torque at 3800 rpm. - Torque is greater than HP...typical american muscle
    - Onstar
    - XM satellite Radio (optional)
    - This is a pretty decent car, Lets say the average cost of the car is 22k (depends on where u buy yah know)...and the horsepower.... Price / HP = Hp per $$....The facts hits $110 per horsepower which is really good.
    - 276 audience x 22k = i get a figure of $6,072,000 spent on those G6

No Oprah is "good people" didn't that story bring a tear to your eye? ...and she didn't actually give those cars away Pontiac donated them to her. The value of each car was $28,000 something not including extra customization that might be performed later on that Oprah was going to cover... and by customizing, I don't believe they were talkin' about addin' dubs, neon lighting underneath and a beotchin' sound system for all these women. Maybe Shaq or Jay Z would do that on their talk show?

Sure is but how many are there want to do this? Some people who are rich is very hard to part with their money I tell ya...At least she goes one step further to make world a better place. I wish I could do the same thing.

I think she is kind to do this...even if it is just a little things for her, it might mean so much for other people.

Your not kidding either! Isn't it ironic that those who have nothing are readily willing to go to Walmart and part with it!?
I have nothing against the wealthy but I will not support Walmart because of the way they mistreat their employees and especially their customers. And I firmly believe if you have the means with it comes a responsibility. and even if you don't believe that you'll end up with more by gving it away and writing a portion of it off.. depending on how much you actually have.

We don't have Walmart in here..but I'm sure it will be the same trick. It is amazing what big companies can do to cover up their dirt. It makes me angry if people run away with money that supposed to be used for a good cause (I bet it happens often).

It is bad because then you are afraid to donate (in case they are fake people). There was a news yesterday about this claiming to be insurance company and break into an elderly woman place and took her stash of cash that she has been saving for years..isn't it sad what this world is becoming to...

Hehehe... if the thieves didn't steal her money the insurance company certainly would have!
...believe me I run a few financial service companies... I should post some of the fine print of insurance policies I've come across and as by law everything must be disclosed (hence the reason why that text is so tiny on the back side! LOL!) ...you'd be shocked at how some are so direct about how they are going to rip the policy holder off! We've had more than a few good laughs analyzing these things... *laughs*

Funny with Walmart they are now considered the world's largest retail company, they have 6 members in Forbe's annual Billionaire list (I posted a thread on Midibuddy with the list... modified only slightly ) and yet they pay their emps less than the average and have on more than one occasion asked of them to work "off the clock", and not to invite a union into their company, etc., etc. ... and I can't imagine why anyone would support that company! At least they aren't getting a penny of my money!

It is all about Power isn't it? The bigger you are the more power you have...unfortunately it comes with an option...to abuse it. Obviously, so much profit is never enough profit. Go Oprah for sharing your profit (even if she does it to make herself look good)

Do you have government body over there that look after this issue? In here you can raise the issue to be investigated (for workplace relations). I don't know if you have different system there.

Isn't that is the reason fine print was invented?... to void responsibility (maybe not all, just 99% of it) *lol* I'm sure they are not made just to test your sight capabilities *laugh* I have never seen any fine print that gives favour to you (not even a car rental but I can imagine insurance is worst). They could just say...No no no...it is not according to our policy..check our fine print *lol*..your insurance is not valid...and no we can't give refund to you...see u later.

Good for Oprah. I wonder what she might be givin' away in the future? Maybe she could give like each audience member their own dream house. That would definately put me in the audience.
