Hi there...
My Sanyo SCP 5000 with Sprint has nearly bit the big one. Now I need to get a new phone. Thought some of you would have some suggestions, based on my needs, which are...
1. Uploadable ringtones. I loved being able to take a midi file and upload it to my phone to customize ringers for people. It was a slight pain using a serial cable for that, since my VAIO only has a serial port on the dock, so USB would be a step up. But I'm NOT interested in downloadable ringtones from the net, or some service, which means $ and I can't use my own composed melodies from my keyboard. I guess mp3's would be just as good, I'd just have to change the process.
2. Since memory sticks are my media of choice, it would be cool to be able to use it with a phone. It might even do away with the need for a cable for #1. Now I know that means Sony Ericsson; I wonder if anyone has experience with them in the US, and with which plans. Though I can't really see the need for this feature, aside from using the phone as an mp3 player...but I already have my palm for that. Also, consider need #1: do any of the SE phones support uploading your own midi files? This MusicDJ thing doesn't seem to be what I want.
3. Anyone but Sprint. Good riddance to them, I may even ditch my wife's phone as well and have to pay $150 for breaking my contract 3 months early. Sprint's customer/PCS service has sucked, and it doesn't even come in at my house (mind you I live on an island out on the ocean). Cingular didn't work too well either, but I've heard good things about Verizon's reception. Also willing to give Nextel a shot. Ideally, I'd like to try a phone for a week, then be able to return it if it doesn't get good reception.
4. Walkie-talkie function with another phone would be nice as well. That's motorola, right? Only Nextel, right?
5. I develop wireless sites, so a good wap browser/internet function is important too. (read: big screen).
My Clie's camera suffices for pics, so camera phone is optional. Bluetooth is another goody, although I'd have nothing to use it with (though I'd eventually get a headset, and maybe even a new palm down the line).
Thanks for your advice. This is becoming such a headache deciding on what to get, any experienced help will be greatly appreciated.

If you're looking for a phone with a memory card. I know the Nokia 6100 has one. I think the Sharp GX30 is a great phone. A very good handset. Really stylish and easy to use

T616 works, but no memory card access. u can use IR or bluetooth to upload midis from ur comp to the phone. S700 is memory stick compatible, not sure if it has bluetooth or IR (infrared), but it plays mp3s and midis. u can find both on a cingular plan

And I can't use SD cards in my palm pilot. Did you read my first post? I said memory sticks are my media of choice. I don't want to have to start having to buy all new media.
X² - thanks for the suggestion (what a helpful member you are showing yourself to be - and the first useful post in my thread!) The 710a (700's cousin) is a beautiful phone! Onyx rocks! I'd love a black phone! I am in love with its specs. But $750 - ouch! Not sure if I'm willing to shell that out (this from a guy who paid $500 for his Sanyo - LOL). Still - I've seen reviews where people have trouble playing full mp3's, and I STILL can't be sure (by the specs) if you can upload midi ringers via cable/stick. The specs only talk about MusicDJ, which is a crappy sampling app.Last edited by ASK; 11-23-2004 at 09:11 AM.
