I'm so excited - I'm going to Disney Land near or in LA (OMG - I'm from Aussie ok so I'm clueless about where things are in the USA, my friend is taking me!)

So everyone, who has been, has to tell me about it!
What was your favourite thing there?
    What's your best memory!
What do I absolutley have to do while I'm there!
    What should I avoid!

I'm so excited - I'm going in the last week of June! Yay for me

    See More: Disney Land!

Are you going to both parks or just Disneyland? Are you just going one day? I worked at Disneyland for almost 6 years and I really haven't been back much since. So much has changed since I left.

You have to do the "staple" Disney rides, Matterhorn, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Tours and Tower of Terror(if you go to California Adventure). Those are the ones whose lines are the longest, so try for the fast pass.
In case you don't know, the fast pass is where you get a ticket and come back to the ride later and wait in a much shorter line. There's more details at the park about it, it helps.

It's slowest at the beginning and end of the day, so what we would tell our friends to do is, go first thing in the morning and get on the rides with the biggest lines first. Then as it gets later, usually around lunch, it tends to get busier, that's when you leave the park for lunch. There are tons of places near by to eat. You might have to walk a couple of blocks, but it's generally cheaper and better than the food in the park. Downtown Disney is also expensive. I'd only eat there if it's the atmosphere you want. They have a House of Blues, ESPN zone, & Rainforest Cafe so if you want to get another sight in, you might want to check it out.

After you've eaten, go back to your hotel, if you're staying locally. If not, try and find some place to rest. just before dinner might be crowded still, you can try the rides but that's usually a good time to see any shows you'd like. Around dinnertime people tend to vacate a little and it's a little slower. After dinner is usually some sort of parade and fireworks show. Best spot for that is pretty much anywhere on Main Street or in front of the castle.
After the fireworks is when it gets good. Most of the families with small children and such tend to leave. This is a great time to get in those rides you couldn't get earlier. You usually have about 2 1/2 hours after the fireworks until closing.

It's good to familiarize yourself with the park before your trip so you're not losing time wandering. Figure out which rides you want to hit first, usually the ones farthest from the gate as their lines will be much shorter. Luckily Disney has so much info online that you could really plan your entire day there before you step foot on the property.

I think you're gonna have a great time. I signed in someone from the Olympic committee before the Sydney Games and it was like watching a kid. You're excitement reminds me of him.

If you have any questions, let me know. I live 5 minutes from the park and can get other info for you as well. Geez, I meant to leave a short little note, not a novel, sorry. Take care,

    Matterhorn MatterhornMATTERHORN!!!!

Okay... I was there when I was 12... only a decade or two ago ... or more... But that was BY FAR my favorite ride!!!

I totally agree wit the "get there early" thing! Get in walk to the ends of the park and ride the big-ticket rides before you waste 2 hours in each line for certain!

bbb knows ALL the ins and outs ... its been SO LONG since I've been there... I can just tell you that the cold mist on the Matterhorn was my fave part...

I did the FL Disney and Epcot about 2 decades ago... when Epcot was unfinished.... Yeesh I'm old! !

Yeah, the Matterhorn is one of my favorite attractions... although the past 5 or 6 years I haven't been on many of the rides... and Disney World is immense!!! I've only been there a handful of times though ...and most recently was in 2000... but Cozi's not hittin' Forida on her first American trip though! ...maybe next time....

If you can though... spare at least a day and overnight at least one night...
hit all the big attractions Sleeping Beauty's Castle, Frontierland, Adventureland... Mad Hatter's Tea Party...

Fond memories? ...ahhh there are far too many!

    this map might help...

here's a more up to date brochure map too...

<sigh> I don't ride the rides nearly as much as I did in my youth ... its the impatience with the lines....

But lemme tell you... last spring when I took my kids to the nearest Six Flags Park (its a chain) I had a GREAT time running from rollercoaster to rollercoaster with a coupla my soon-to-graduate seniors!

Considering that on the average summer day they get about 50,000 guests, it really does pay to do your homework. Enjoy planning, that's part of the excitement.

Yeah, I'd ride more of the rides but I've been there some twenty or thirty times and I've pretty much been on everything... and I do dislike waiting in line... I will ride the less popular rides like the monorail, train, submarine, the Columbia I believe is the ship... and the boats... but if you get there early and are among the first twenty or so in line it's not so bad... and it's also not bad if you've never been there before... besides I enjoy striking up a conversation in line and there are always so many friendly, interesting people there...

I used to live about 15 minutes from there... and when I was going to University in Connecticut... I always stayed in Florida my folks used to have a place on the beach I'd stay at during the summers... and I have an aunt in Orlando so... I got to visit Disneyworld often as well... I've also been to the one in France a few times... it's not nearly as good as in the States though...

It's really worth it to spend the night though... at least see the fireworks and all... just stay and enjoy the entire experience... that must've been fun working there bbblueyes... although, I'm certain it was a different experience working rather than visiting...

G-man, the submarines are gone from Disneyland, not sure if Dworld still has theirs. They left the lagoon there, but took the boats and such out a couple of years ago. People pass the lagoon and wonder what the heck that's for. For those who don't know, the submarine lagoon is this huge body of water between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. You have to walk around it to get to Tomorrowland, so you can't miss it. In October, they still hadn't done anything with it. That was a fun ride to just relax on. No one ever went on it and if you were lucky, you got the funny spiel from the bored cast members looking to entertain themselves.

Working there was a blast. I loved the first 5 years, never lost the "magic". The last year there was quite the opposite. They were working us to death and it just got real bad. Most of us were working 6 days, double shifts. We'd come in early in our normal location and then pull parade detail for the night. I still loved the job and all of the people but was getting burned out. When I left we were losing at least 3 people every week. I still consider that the best job I've ever had. It was so much fun. People think that after seeing that many people day after day and seeing the behind the scenes would lose some of it's magic, and for some it does. It didn't for me. It was like knowing how a magic trick works and then using it for your own act. You get to see the excitement of those seeing it for the first time. OMG, that was sooooo corny. But it's true. 99% of the people there WANT to be there, I mean they paid almost $50 to get in, they'd better want to be there. So they usually have a pretty good attitude. It's amazing how quickly waiting in lines and forking over lots of $$ will kill that attitude, but they do eventually come back to the good attitude. And that makes it worth it.

OK, that's enough, this is nauseating even me. and my post is getting long. See ya,
