Heh... hubby read in his Daddy-books that one should be prepared with a large selection of decoy cellphones and remote controls....

But kids are smart... they learn which ones work...

I agree with the decoy's. I've had to buy like 3 so far (remote controls), because son has either lost them or destroyed them.

By the way, a ceiling fan on high and a remote don't go well together...ceiling fan always wins. But, pieces of a remote control vs. a picture window, remote control wins.

    Age 8, no but........

My daughter is 11 and very active in a few things. She's on 2 different basketball teams. Her school and a seperate organization. Shes on saftey patrol @ school and attends all trips to anywhere!! She goes to B-ball Tourneys in different cities & has practice at least 4 times a week. Yes, she has a phone. I didn't buy it, but i'm kinda glad that she has it now. She doesnt take it to school unless shes having an activity afterwards. I was against her getting one at first until I seen how much of a convenience it was. So far she has deemed herself responsible with it. Her dad bought it for her last Dec. for xmas and he keeps the minutes on it, lol. No probs so far.
Another example is my best friends son who is a very large 11. He has to catch the public bus home from school so she purchased one for him and it's working out fine. I think it depends on the situations. 8 year olds, I wouldn't.

I think that kids should have simple cell phones, for emergencys,etc.. I don't think they should have a wacked out 1.3 Megapixel camera phone though.
Ask me about Sprint and Verizon

I work for the company who sells that phone, we havent had to much people interested in it. You can only send and receive calls to the 22 people you program in the phone book. But if my daughter was 8 she would have one.

This phone will probably be good for emergencies only every day stuff maybe.
A child probably won't be able to dail a bunch of numbers to find where mom and dad are?
The best provider gives you a plan with the minutes you need at the right price. The coverage that you need to make calls all the time.

Mmm, it's alright. I got my first phone when I was 10 and it was a Nokia somethingrather and I remember it weighing like 10 pounds. I got by okay. I think I would have been capable of dialing Mom or Dad's number when I was 8. Problem with that phone is that it's only good for like a year or two before you outgrow it.

That's funny, I never thought there would be a cell phone like that. (Two years ago) When I was 12, I had a cell phone, but it was more "featured" than that.

... I read somwhere that kids shouldn't use cell phones. why?... because, they skull is still growing and radiation could make a lot of damage to their brain...

I must say that it depends on the situation... As stated before, with the daughter being so involved in school the cell actually serves a purpose, BUT not all children are that responsible and that's where the cellphone is just for "show" and "fun"...
