50,000 Crabs Crowd Waters Off Australia

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Tens of thousands of spider crabs have filled the waters off the coast of Australia.

More than 50,000 of the crustaceans have swarmed onto a sandbar near Melbourne.

The crabs have formed a 3-foot-thick cover the size of a football field on the ocean floor.

Scientists said the phenomenon is extremely rare. They aren't sure why so many of the spider crabs have converged on the same area.

Normally, the crabs are found spread out on the ocean floor.

Yeah i was was watchin this yday, They said it could sometin got to do with the mating patterns or sometin!

its gotta be a sign of of some apocalypse. some epic underwater war is brewing and about to take place that will effect the whole balance of the Earth.

i'm telling u it ALWAYS happens in the movies... these brilliant scientists stand around in awe of some stupid natural phenomenon and try to study it and point out how cool it is instead of telling anyone to run! by the time they figure that out its too late. then we're screwed and have to save the scientists' @$$es even though it's THEIR fault for the last second chaos

there's always one scientist who predicts this but he ends up ridiculed, called "mad", excommunicated by his peers

Completely agree! And da scientist who predicts it all will end up goin mad, so people just def wont believe him then!

But yeah, it could be that the crabs are annoyed by us boilin dem alive, so there back to fight for the killing of there brothers!
