some people do by buying bracelets, some buy ribbons for cars and houses, some volunteer their time or resources, some drop money in the bucket at the stoplight or the cash register, some donate vehicles or personal items, and some cut checks. do you do any of these things? huh? well do you?!
i'm just curious and if so, you should head here-

I donate where I can by buying bracelets and I donate to the Aga Khan Foundation. I'm a student so it's hard for me to spare much cash right now but I do what I can.

We give pretty substantially to our church... its a small town and there isn't a lot of cashflow... the local library, food bank, and arts council get a chunk too.. on the smaller side I am the biggest fundraiser-sucker EVER! Every kid who comes to the door (or my classroom) gets a piece of my ching... ... I have rolls of Xmas wrapping paper, popcorn in tins, and cheese spread that date back a coupla years now

Yeah, some stayed for the looting and raping... others couldn't afford to go anywhere... the biggest issue is the fact that the city is considerably flooded and it's simply difficult to get in there.

agreed.... I'm certain a number of people imagined a Charlie-like situation and thought it would be FUN to stay and be the ones on the news... Y'know, a relatively clean ocean surge that drains away as opposed to the sewage and debris laden filth of water in their upstairs bedroooms. But if I knew pre-katrina about the "bowl" topography of N.O. then the residents had to know too. While I have pity on families with old beligerent relatives (you can be certain that if it were my mom I'd drug her food and carry her out! ), the people who chose to stay chose their destiny. While it is our job as humanitarians to save people from their own foolishness, the safety of the saviours needs to be a priority. Harsh, yeah... I'm sorry...
It does surprise me that there wasn't more preparation on the part of those slightly inland. Our church started collecting bottled water to send South even before the big K hit - I'm surprised that there wasn't a REALLY big push in preparation for refugees...
As for my part... if there were a way to find a family who lost it all.. I'd love to say "come stay here, I have extra space and extra love"... put the kids in school and the parents can return south to pick up thier lives when they can... but its so far away here... maybe if I found a family that had sworn off the coastal life! ... Gonna ask my Pastor if the church has established anything,,,

Oh no.... a popular artist is trying to turn this to a racial issue ...
It is a lack of planning and action... they're not black or white or rich or poor... they're people in need
