Re: Kids Having Cell Phones... What Do You Think
I'm happy to say that I can take ALL my kids into an antique store (and have) and can walk out not having to spend anything, my kids 2 boys 2 girl ages are as follows : oldest son: 7 twins (boy and girl) both 4 and my youngest daughter 2. And I just recently took them into an antique store looking for a old rotory phone for my g/f and they stood still with their hands behind their backs the whole time (I DIDN'T EVEN TELL THEM TO!!) I can't say beyond a shadow of a doubt that this will continue when they get older but I can tell you that I will do everything in my power to keep it this way.

Re: Kids Having Cell Phones... What Do You Think
To me. When I was 18 I had a cell phone due to my dad wanted me to have one because I was always staying out late at night when I was in high school. My service was nextel, and I still have nextel. to be the younger kids having cell phoes isnt big big at all, I know I seen alot of kids with cell phone when they're only 12 to 14 years of age but rebember this least keeping in touch with people that care about them like moms & dads and so forth. At least some of the younger kids with cell phones arent out doing anything bad like getting themselves in trouble with the law or whatever.

I was 12 when i first had a cellphone, and believe me it was a status symbol, 8890's and 8290's were considered God phones back then. And Yes, as being immature, i got pretty hooked into sms, and oh boy, you dont want to read my inbox. My parents had problems with me and my cellphone. I was unsupervised, but i dont blame them because they worked very hard, but because im immature and give a cellphone at such a young age, you know what i mean.Last edited by Ace587; 08-09-2006 at 05:08 PM.

Re: Kids Having Cell Phones... What Do You Think
kids don't need cell phones until the 9th grade...before then they are young enough that their parents pretty much have an eye on them all the time to the point where they dont even need a cell phone.

Re: Kids Having Cell Phones... What Do You Think
i had my phone at 10th grade, and it would really depend, since i lived back then in the philippines, when tropical cyclones already hit the country, most of the schools retain the students inside the school, and i needed communication with my parents

The best way to "keep an eye on them at all time" is to give them a cell phone helping to teach them to be responsible and check in with parents from time to time.
By the way... I can also tell you are not actually a parent because you missed a word in your post. It should read: "...they are young enough that their parents should pretty much have an eye on them all the time..."

Re: Kids Having Cell Phones... What Do You Think
I think cell phones are a great technology that serves the fast moving world to instant knowledge at a moments notice. Just think of all the things that weren't accomplish... be it personal or business because of the effort it took to look for a PHONE-BOOTH to make a call, compared to driving or being somewhere and just pick up your cell phone to talk to your kid instantly. I think today we take the cell phone for granted... and yes there is some con's to the cell phone technology, but what all good comes some bad.

Of course, i wouldnt give my sister a phone if she didnt take care of her stuff and it always got lost. My little sister is organized, and she puts her phone on silent whenever shes in school, and i instructed her to use the phone only if she needs it, not as a text machine. The phone is always in her pocket, LOL, u knw how big the 3650 is, and she calls me whenever shell be late after school due to extracurricular activity. ill leave the multimedia features to my sister so she can be entertained when she gets bored. But i mean, not all kids are responsible on their phones, but giving them a cellphone makes me as a big brother relieved whenever i want to know whats happening to my sister, instead of calling the school and wondering what the hell is going on. Kids might do crazy stuff with their phones, but i mean hey, theyre kids after all, theyre a high risk age group, I would be expecting things like it. But in any case, such as last time when my sister called me, because i forgot to pick her up from school, the school was already closed and she and a few friends were there outside waiting for their rides to come. if my sister did not have a phone that time, i ddnt know what cud have happened, the cops probably cud have gone there and see my sister waiting, and I cud have been in serious trouble. By the way, my parents at that time were at work, and I was responsible that timePhilippine Commandos......Still kicking terrorist butt in the ruthless jungles of southern Philippines
