Astronomers say Pluto is not a planet

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Leading astronomers declared Thursday that Pluto is no longer a planet under historic new guidelines that downsize the solar system from nine planets to eight. After a tumultuous week of clashing over the essence of the cosmos, the International Astronomical Union stripped Pluto of the planetary status it has held since its discovery in 1930.

This is devastating. Especially to song lyrics by bands like 2 Skinnee J's which proclaimed, "Pluto. It's a planet."

I just like this little bit of oxymoronism: "historic new guidelines". How can they be new AND historic?!?!

Because they're groundbreaking. Therefore, they'll be historic when the time comes. Duh.

Yup, it will now be referred to as 'The Planet Formerly Known As Pluto', or just plain 'Shorty'. At least we won't be getting it confused with Mickey Mouse's dog anymore.

By the way, if Pluto is a dog, and Goofy is a dog, why does Pluto walk around on all fours and Goofy wears clothes and drives a car?

I read about this last week, all those astonomers and scientists getting boners over classifying/declassifying the planets and moons.

I get excited when I'm dealing with big balls too.
