I was wondering if anyone could tell me who or how this forum got started? Where is it housed (physically) and how the forum makes money to keep it rolling?

    Thanks.

    Starting your own?

This forum was an offshoot of midibuddy.net. MIDI's have long been used by musicians and the musicians at midibuddy began to chafe at the number of uneducated cellphone users who came in asking questions like "Why would you ever need more than 30 seconds?".... SO the owner of this site, Tavenger5 (who can answer your other questions in more detail), was coerced into first creating a cellphone infrmation subforum, then, seeing where the growth was, broke off CPF into a separate forum...

The forum makes money via page views - each page view is an advertisement or three, and generates a fraction of a penny... it thrived initially because the membership of the old forum was given membership here as well - and we liked our new toy . As with any forum we have busy and slow periods...

tavenger is a better source than I for the other details... I'll steer him here

Yep, that's it. Cept a lot of the ads are per click.

The forum itself started in 2003 when the ringtone section of midibuddy.net was big enough to start its own site. Back then MIDI's were the primary file used for ringtones.

Hosting can get expensive with large forums and I will say that this one has a nice dedicated server behind it. It will need another soon at the rate of growth. If you want more details please PM me.
