I attended a church service recently where someone's cell phone went off and the person proceeded to take the call without leaving the service. The pastor made a joke on how put out he was that God had not called him. It got a laugh but it seems that there should be some common sense rules governing when you should turn your cell phone off. What is your take on this?

I think the Pastor must have a great sense of humor. I would have been pissed.

He should've said "God spoke to me today... in the form of a voicemail because I don't get service in this church..."

Agreed. Call should have been taken outside if it was important. Simple manners, that's all it comes down to.

That is completely appalling. Clearly he/she doesn't give a darn about religion or common courtesy!

I dont like when people care that much about God. I've never gone to church but we dont have such rules or restrictions. I mean I never should turn my cell phone off when I go to the temple.

However, is it not a common curtousy ? Same idea like a cell phone in a fine dining restaurant or a movie theater. I don't think it's that people are afraid that "God" will punish them for using their cell phon in church, it's more that it's a common curtousy to others to turn it off.

Not be to rude, but I'd worry much more about courtesy toward people in this situation. I was at a baseball game yesterday and would not use my cell phone in the stands.
