Hello everyone!
I am the webmaster of a German website that deals with the protection of animals and I have just translated one of its texts into English. However, as I am not a native speaker, I would really appreciate it if you could have a look at it tell me how to improve it:
Protest against the massacre of animals at the Plovdiv „animal shelter“
Bulgaria has an obligation to implement its animal protection act! Protest now!
Two Bulgarian citizens witnessed a cruel massacre of animals at the Plovdiv animal camp (isolator) in Bulgaria on February 8, 2008: Two animal keepers slay 14 stray dogs with iron bars.
Article 6 and article 7 of the Bulgarian animal protection act prohibit „the infliction of pain and every act or omission of an act, that causes permanent or repeated suffering to the animal“.
Call on Attorney General Boris Velchev, the Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Plugtschieva and Plovdiv’s Mayor Slavcho Atanossov for a humane treatment of the stray animals in Bulgaria!
ISOLATORS ISOLATE BULGARIA
Dear Attorney General Velchev,
Dear Deputy Prime Minister Plugtschieva,
Dear Mayor Atanossov,
article 6 and article 7 of the Bulgarian animal protection act prohibit „the infliction of pain and every act or omission of an act, that causes permanent or repeated suffering to the animal“.
The massacre of dogs in Plovdiv on February 8, during which 14 dogs were slain with iron bars by two animal keepers known to us by name before the eyes of two witnesses, not only grossly contradicts the applicable law and the elementary ethical standards, but also harms the esteem of your country.
WE DEMAND FROM YOU:
• The closing down of all camps for stray animals in Bulgaria and their conversion into animal shelters
• Severe punishment for those who torment, kill or maroon animals
• Immediate implementation of the castration programmes provided by the animal protection act
• Free access to the camps for stray animals for all citizens
Enforce the applicable law and make sure, that the isolators finally disappear from the moral map of Bulgaria. This is your duty, comply with it!
I, as a citizen of the European Union, will visit Bulgaria only when your country considers its responsibility towards animals.
Yours sincerly,
(Your name and address)

Re: Need help with translation of a petition
Just some small punctuation changes, and a word or two where in the wrong tense. Should be ok now!

Re: Need help with translation of a petition
Thank you very much to all of you for your help! As for those translation programmes, we have tried one of them, but the result was horrible. Check out the "translation" of our website, for example:
