Long story short: My husband and I are working through a bout of infidelity on his part. Very tough situation. I am trying to regain trust and as part of this I look through his cell phone now and then. He knows this and is fine with it. I found something potentially suspicious on his phone and have not been able to figure it out. Again - I am clueless so bear with me. I suspect you will laugh when you read this. I use a cell phone like most people but am not tech savvy when it comes to phones. My husband, on the other hand, is an IT person. Here goes:

What is a data call? These are showing up on his cell phone, ranging from 50 seconds to 8 minutes. The number is 777. My husband's phone has Easy Edge on it so maybe this is somehow related? For all I know, he is checking sports scores and weather. On the other hand, I read online that a “data call” can be a situation where a person uses their cell phone as a modem to send a fax or e-mail through their cell phone. It can be used to link 2 computers through a cell phone from a laptop to a PC.

It is interesting to me that these data calls all occur at times when my husband and I are apart. Sometimes this is when he's at the playground with our kid, or at 1 am when I am in bed, etc.

Any thoughts are much appreciated. Please don't slam me too hard.

Oh, if it helps, he has a Samsung SCH-r500.

Data calls are data sessions. In other words, the phone accessed the internet.

Generally, if the phone was used as a modem for a computer, it shows up differently in billing than if he used the phone's internal browser. But technically, aside from the difference in the names of the billing features, it's the same thing. #777 is the cellular network's method of initiating a data session.

Also, depending on the unit, SOME phones will connect to #777 to check for software updates and such.
