i live in japan *been here almost 10 years*.

i dont live in tokyo, but i live in osaka which is one of the biggest cities in japan.

1. that "blog" is ridiculous. no facts. no supporting info.
2. well japan is crowded, so im sure u could leech off someone elses wireless connection and consider it "free". getting that consistently is another matter.
3. 77MB/s is pretty fast. japan is actually very behind the times in many aspects of technology, despite what many ppl think in the west. surprisingly though, their internet speed/providers have drastically improved lately. i pay about 3,500yen for fiber-optic internet (20+MB/s).
