The H1N1 Flu virus, originally known as the Swine flu, is now a popular flu and is infecting many throughout the world in 10 different countries and in over 30 different states here in the U.S.

Do you feel the H1N1 Flu virus is over exaggerated? By the media...specifically?

What steps are you doing to avoid getting it?

    Have you got it?

Do you know of anyone who has gotten it or currently has it?

Just curious who is REALLY effected, especially as far as the CPF community goes.

    Re: H1N1 Flu Virus

I'm in Milwaukee and the media here imo has really been over doing we always seem to have breaking news at sum point about it. We have a few cases of it here and 21 schools have closed this week.

I've seen people wearing face masks and loading up on hand sanitizer and face masks at stores(they're sold out everywhere) The only thing I do is just live life as normal and wash my hands a lil more than normal after shopping or watever..

I don't know anyone who has it.

The media is blowing it up a bit...but for a good reason.

This flu is the same type (known as the Spanish flu of 1918) that killed over 5 million people. Yes, back then they had poor medical care.

Now, we're more prepared and getting everyone to do their part can help prevent any more serious complications.

In our area, we don't have any cases of it (for about 100 miles) but we're sold out of hand sanitizer and they're telling my children to prepare for a school closure.

I really do believe the experts feel this could be the big one. Some stuff I have read predicts a lull over the summer then hit hard next winter.

    Re: H1N1 Flu Virus

I think the H1N1 Flu Virus is pretty heavily exaggerated by the media. While not necessarily exaggerated by the U.S. media, it has become a global worry. I know that in China, people are terrified. This isn't all too surprising, since China's run-in with SARS was quite serious. SARS, however, was a much more serious matter. I have heard stories about Chinese people from the U.S. returning to China and being avoided by relatives, as well as being told to stay in their houses for a week. According to some newspapers, pork product sales have dropped drastically, which probably influenced the name change. I'm not really affected by it, but I would be a bit scared if I did get it. Hopefully, this whole thing will just kind of fade.[/I][/I]

In Hong Kong they quarantined an entire hotel and all guests for seven days just because a guy who had swine flu stayed there.
