A story published by CBS news last year says that sexting, a word made up from crossing 'sex' and 'texting', is not uncommon among high schoolers around the country. A study conducted says around 20% of teems admit to participating in sexting, and that number is probably higher a year later.

Do you have a teen that you suspect have been sexting? Did you know that swapping around nude photos could be considered a felony? Did you know as a parent you could be held responsible?

In an age where social networking and posting everything about yourself on the internet is becoming very common, parents need to stress the importance of personal privacy. Make sure that they understand anything they publish on the internet or via their cell phone can easily be copied and passed around to many people. Remind your teens that they shouldn't feel pressured to do things they are uncomfortable about.

If you do suspect your teen of sexting, one immediate thing you can do is call your cell phone provider and tell them to turn off text and picture messaging on your teen's phone. Keep in mind that damage may have already been done, especially if photos were sent to an untrustworthy person.

What do you think about this? What are you going to do to prevent your kids from sexting?
