Their network is already halfway merged. The complete takeover of AT&T into Cingular is expected to be in early 2005, a year after the original acquisition had occured.

actually the date for the merger to be official is slated for the end of october, at least that is what cingular is telling me

As a fomer employee of Cingular I was bound to secretcy about the merger, but I don't work for them any more I can devulge that Day 1 is offically Oct 1st. I excisisting customers of AT&T can keep their old plans, but the moment that they want to uprade their old phone add a line they will have to switch over to the Cingular plans and phones

^^^^then it lasts for 6 months time where cingular can use the at&t name before being forced to consider everything cingular

it has been moved to oct 31 as of right now

Yeah I believe the merger is almost completely finished, and like you said its probably going to be October 31st.

I've been seeing commercials announcing the merger so it must be in the works or done now.
