I got 2 cingular phones on Oct 15 2004 roughly 3 weeks ago. I was not asked to sign a contract, instead I was asked to do a verbal deal over the phone inwhich I couldnt do because the sales lady screwed up my SSI number and couldnt get the agreement to work. She said she would have to handle that on the next days as the store was about to close.
I bought the $59.99 family talk plan with the additional $9.99 extra line. This paln includes: free mobile to mobile, free nationwide roaming, free nights and weekend, and free unlimited long distance. I also added for $14.00 more a month for the 7am to 7pm nights and weekends and purchased insurance on both phones at $3.99 per phone.
One week after doing this, I got a bill in my mail for $260.92. I called them immediately and they said it was a huge mistake on the behalf and they would fix it. They were charging roaming fees and mobile to mobile fees along with 2 base lines instead of one. So i believed they were honestly going to correct my bill.
    Boy was I wrong!
Today i logged onto their site and they did make an adjustment of just over $69.00 dollars which brought my balance do to $191.34. So I called them again and explained to them that this was not what was quoted to me by Mr. kendal Mcneal cingular service representative. They told me that the phone bill is right and that no further adjustments are due. I then told them I no longer wanted there phones and was directed to return them to the center where I got them as to avoid an $240.00 deactivation charge for the phones phone.
I went to the center where I got the phones and the woman there called the main office and told me that the main office had accreddited my account with $120.00 bringing my phone bill down to $140.00 which would be about right having to pay activation charges and all. I told her the phones were really a pain and that I didnt want them anymore and I wanted them deactivated and handed her the phones. She told me she would not accept them and that i shoulndt have been directed to return them bieng 15 days had lasped since I got them and my grace period was over and that I had to pay $240.00 PER PHONE deactivation regardless if I returned them or not. So I kept them. She had me sign a deactivation paper. And was on the phone with cingular deactivation my phones as I was leaving.
    THATS WHAT I THOUGHT ANYWAY!
When I got back to my house I called cingular who has no knowledge whatsoever of telling the center representative that $120.00 was deducted from my bill and that my phones were still active. That they were never filed for being deactivated. so now im stuck paying $191.34+ $240.00+ $240.00 for 3 weeks of cingular service using a grand total of 4 minutes of the 850 rollover minutes on the plan.
Being i didnt do a contract and I couldnt do a verbal agreement am I liable for this?

Yeah its screwed up. I called the woman at the service center on yesterday and asked her why she lied to me about the $120.00 credit that she said they gave me. She told me that I was harrassing her.

I called a lawyer and they told me without an contract and without an verbal agreement, cingular will have nothing to stand on.

    Cingular sucks

I too have had a very bad experience with Cingular. In the beginning one of the things they sold us with the two crappy phones they recommmended were head sets. We had to pay for one and get the second one free. Turns out neither one worked. We took them back and after arguing back and forth on getting replacements, they said they could not because the headsets were "no longer available because of factory defects". No wonder they were "buy one get one free." LIARS!
The service in our area was so bad that we could not even carry on a conversasion using there phones from our home. So when the two LONG years of putting up with them ended, I switched to Version (which is A LOT BETTER). I thought I was done with Cingular but no. The month following my cancelation, they sent me a bill. I called and explained to them that I was no longer a Cingular customer. My phones were inactive so what the hell was their problem? They had no idea so they went ahead and said they closed the account and my balance was $0.00.
Well this week, a month later, I get another bill threatening me to pay or get nailed for a $36.00 reconnect fee (I was already disconnected 2 MONTHS AGO). Then today while at work, I get an automated call from them telling me my account was over due and to pay (plus a bunch of other garbage they rambled on about how wonderful they were) before the message was cut off. I was pissed to say the least. So, I just got off the phone with them again. I could not access my number to get to my account because...IT WAS CLOSED. When I spoke to the dumb woman on the other end, she said my number belonged to some lady. NO KIDDING! So, again they say they closed my account and credited it so I now have a balance of $0.00.
What a bunch of crap. I would recommend that if you are looking to join Cingular, you better bend over and get ready...

I have heard that Verison is much better. But I have went back to my local land based carrier. After what cingular tried to pull,I dont even want to touch another cell phone. As far as I'm concerned, Cingular can shove their phones where the sun don't shine.

That doesn't even make sense to me. You were able to activate a plan over the phone, with no type of receipt at all? Meaning they didn't even send you a purchase receipt to your email or anything of that sort?

If you write like this they cant get rid of you soon enough, and its pathetic that anyone sink to tactics like this to try and get back at a company. In the mean time I would get your resume ready soon, Mickey D's is looking for someone to flip burgers.

I got the phones from a cingulair store. The woman put in the wrong social security number so I couldn't do the agreement over the phone on either of both phones. I think she was too busy talking on her cell phone to her boyfriend about car bills. The phones however did get activated. This I still dont understand. She never asked for one form of identification, not even a signature. I now have found out that cingulair screwed themselves . They dont have my signature, my mailing address, my credit card number, or the correct SS number. They dont even know my correct name Thanks to HER mistakes. Now when I try to log on to cingulair to view my bill they tell me i am not a customer. and have no bills to pay. So I guess its all settled. I got to be a cingulair customer for a whole two weeks and experience the cingulair screwing.

This was at a cingulair store not over the phone.

Brenda there are several factors involved here, Contract acceptance in a company store is not done on the phone so there are several questions i have about your story. THe main fact is no matter what you have 30 days to cancel your plan, with only a small fee. You at my best guess were not a cingular store but a cingular agent.

One bad experience does not a company make, look at these boards, every forum has "______ sucks so bad never go with this carrier"

Also Singulair is Drug, Cingular is a phone carrier =)
