What is the difference in these two? I have ATT here in Texas and the coverage sucks.

    Ya they did just merge.

The big misunderstanding now is the fact that people think now I can have mobile to mobile minutes with both AT&T and Cingular members.

Yes this is true but only when you sign up for a NEW activation.
If you currently already have either, you won't get mobile to mobile minutes automatically with both service members.

They can kiss my ass if they want me to transfer over to cingular. I'd rather have my minutes and unlim nw with mobile to mobile than go over to have to pay 9.99 a month for mobile to mobile. I'm only on a reigonal plan, and I don't need a nat'l no roaming plan with 450 anytime...

I love how they messed up the rate plans already. I for one am going to stay where I am, as long as I can

How did Cingular mess up their rate plans? Cingular is using the same rate plans they had before the buyout.

No one has forced you to change over to Cingular's rate plan. If you're happy with yours, then stay with it. But when your phone eventually dies or you decide you want a new phone, you will have to move to a Cingular plan or find new service.

Actually, its not that they don't want to update their systems. The fact of the matter is that teh government will only allow a certain amount of towers in a given area. Now that aws & cingular are one company, when they bring up new cingular towers, they need to take down old AWS towers.

    Hope this helps

This problem will occur in some areas for the next 2 years or so while networks, towers, switching stations are merged to be one nationwide network.
The best provider gives you a plan with the minutes you need at the right price. The coverage that you need to make calls all the time.

if you do want to improve your coverage, there are 2 things you coult try; 1. power cycle your phone @ least once a day. 2. in your phone settings navigate to the network selection/mode option (this is found in a different place on different models so congtact your manufacturer if you can't find it) in that feature, select cingular wireless. The wireless part is essential as those are the attws towers.

I have been an AT&T subscriber for over 6 years, and as far as Cingular is concerned, I am a new customer. I have explained that I own a Nokia 3650 and would like for them to take up the slack on a new phone with new service. Give me a comparable phone with a comparable rate, they won't budge on pricing or even crediting my account. I have, also, told them that I have been experiancing more dropped calls, within the past 3 months, than ever before. Personally, I think Cingular needs to comp me on my issue.

    My reason is:
    1) I don't have a contract, haven't had one in over a year.
    2) My reception is being cut in half, I'm having dropped calls in places that have been strong areas.
    3) I'm willing to sign a contract, but I want a Nokia 6620/7610 for free.
My reasoning for that, I pay just as much as any other Joe Shmoe that has the Larger Cingular network(plus I would have to pay an $18 Migration Fee!!), but I only have access to half of it!!! "Throw me a friggin' bone here!!"
    4) I'm a Cingular Customer, newly acquired due to the merger, my bills say Cingular, when I call 611 they state Cingular. Why can't I just slide right over to there system? Because I'm not Cingular, therefore I have to invest more money into another phone that is comparable and can work with their SIM cards. I know that I can Unlock my phone for SINgular, but I can't access MEdia from it.
Cingular needs to pull for their ExAT&T Customers.

How riduculous of Cingular! I can't believe they won't give you a special rate plan. They shouldn't hold you to the same rate plans as they are holding other Cingular and AT&T customers to. You should receive special treatment.

I could sit here and pick apart you post and respond, but to me it's just not worth it. You AT&T customers want everything for free. AT&T might have given you whatever you wanted but Cingular is going to hold you to the same standards as every other customer. There is a reason AT&T sold out to Cingular, they were BANKRUPT.

I'll leave you with this. Make a choice. Migrate to Cingular and pay the $18 upgrade fee (not migration fee). You would get a free phone, so don't give me this BS about having to purchase a new phone. If you want a higher end model, you're going to pay for it like EVERYONE else. If you don't like what we offer, I'll just tell you what I tell my customers. "Cancel your service and find another carrier". Then you can pay a $35 activation charge with a new company, and you still have to pay for a new phone.

    The balls in your court.

oh yea man, this merger is screwing many people over, some people have those $99 unlimited plans and for them to switch they have to have 2000 minutes only, its junk. not to mention a new contract and the same service you had with att, and their customer care isnt all that helpful, its not really a well played move by cingular. But hey, if youre off contract, you can go wherever you want.

Don't those AT&T unlimted plans have an expiration date if I am correct?

Also they are the fastest growing. They might be having the most churn in numbers (not percent) here soon.
