Never never go cingular. This company sucks.
My contract was end on Sep 10,2004.On Sep 12,2004
I called the customer service and said i wanna cancel this plan.
One guy said ok,but you have to wait till next billing cycle since
it's in the middle, and blar,blar... Even i am not really happy with that.
I said ok,so the phone gonna be closed on Oct 10,2004.After that,
i used my wife phone since she got another one from Tmobile which means
i rarelly touched this dammed cingular phone. To be surprised,
i found there is a huge amount ($141)charged on my CC on Nov 6,2004 from Cingular.
I called the customer service a few time(each time it took more that 10 minutes to response).
Everyone could see how they treat customers. Finally i got someone who i guess is a black lady.
I tried to explain this situation and said there was somthing wrong cause i never used
that much amount minutes(that lady explained me i over 260 minutes).
Suddendly she raised her voise ,almost shouting at me."
You used that amount of minutes,if not you, that should be someelse.
And you must pay this bill..blar blar"Dammed,i locked this phone in my desk.
Who the hell gonna use this phone except the ghost. So i replied cool but a little bit angry"
I need to get a copy of this bill and before i confirm all those charges
i would ask my CC company to disbute this charge.
(i never authorized them to charge my CC without notice.)"
Before i finished my talk, she just disrupt my speaking rudely.
And almost yelling at me"No matter how,you have to pay this bill."
Now i am waiting for them to send me this ridiculous bill.and i am
so curious to know how Cingular could make money like this way.Actually, before this incident,
i heard a few of my friends complaied Cingular about such kind of huge bill
after you closed your cingular account. Now i do hope i can let them give me back
this credit(even Seems no much hope). The last effort i would do is to take legal action
against Cingular. But for sure no one would like this to happen. It's not just for 141 bulks,
but for the cunsumer's rights. Not just that,i would go as many local cingular stores as
i could to share this experience with those who potentially wanna buy a cingular phone.
    Once again,never never go cingular.They suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

I've come to the conclusion though, that you're probably not going to find a 100% satisfactory cell phone company. I think it just comes down to who gives you the least amount of problems. Right now, my Verizon contract is up around the first of the year. My parents have had Cingular for a couple years now and have not had any major problems. I've been with Cingular, Sprint, & now Verizon. Verizon has been the worst, by far for me (customer service is horrible). Needless to say, I will be going back to Cingular after my contract expires.

BTW, the reason I'm even on a Verizon contract is because of my job. My employer uses Verizon for all our cell phone accounts. They have had a TON of problems with Verizon's customer service. Unfortunately, when their contract was up and they tested Cingular, the signal stength just wasn't there. And now that Cingular has merged with AT&T and their signals have improved (dramatically for one person I know), they are locked back into another 2-year contract with Verizon.

Anyway, my point here is that I think most the cell phone companies are somewhat shady when it comes to customer service (at least the ones I've used). It's all a matter of finding the least "bothersome" company.

I dont know who you spoke with or who you dealt with but i wanna clear up a few things. EVERY customer has 30 days to cancel ANY plan with no penality other then paying the activation charge and a pro rate of the service.

No matter what provider there are always going to be instances where a customer is not satisfied for whatever reason. Sometimes there are mix ups or what have you. I have experianced a billing problem or two with cingular in the past but they cleared it up. I have friends that have T mobile and Verizon and Nextel. Some are nothning more than happy and some have had horror stories. Sorry to hear about your experiance. Hope you can get everything straightend out.

I've used a mobile phone since 1991 and had at least a dozen providers. Pretty much all customer service reps are poorly trained and only very rarely provide any real help. that is just my experience. I cannot imagine how Cingular could be worse than Sprint, a random spot in a grave yard will yield more help than the typical Sprint CS rep. Time will tell, I have only had my Razr on Cingular a few weeks and my only run in with Cingular CS was to ask for the web settings for my unbranded phone to which the CinguIdiot said "We do not support non-Cingular phones". The CingiIdiot that said is there anything else I can help you with? As if he had helped with something in the first place.

I agree that most reps are poorly trained.

I'll never understand why many people, who are college or real world experience educated, expect someone with probably just a high school diploma to fix all their cell phone needs. Most reps are only equipped with an outage board, a basic web page with a few extras on the company's products/services, and your phone's user guide.

For major issues, I'd utilize the online help by going to my cell phone company's web page where people who are more likely than not better trained and educated since they tend to have the smooth job of having to just respond via email. I was able to put in a trouble ticket for my cell phone for coverage in my house and get directly to the engineers and bypass the reps by going online. I'd give that a try first. Isn't that why we're on the net in the first place?

I'm pretty sure you can do the same with Cingular.

I've never had any problems with cingular...the only problems I've had is me breaking my phones and the stupid internet. About 3 times I have had to call them to fix it but after holding for 5 minutes or so they generally fix the problem pretty quickly...

I HEAR YA! They suck, and have no loyalty to old ATT customers, and they have the worst plans I've ever seen.

Since they took over ATT, they've been giving me ther runaround about converting. My credit, my contract, and my loyalty to ATT for over 4 years means nothing to them.

The fact that I've never, NEVER once payed a bill late means nothing to them.

They suck, they're terrible, and I wish nothing but the worst in finacial hardship and bankruptcy on them.

I've had zero issues with Cingular. Every company has their "bad" stories where their customers weren't getting as much service as they would have liked. I had that experience with Verizon so that's why I switched to Cingular. It sounds like you're one of those customers too.

I for one am happy about the plan I got and what they had to offer. I have no complaints.

sorry to hear the bad news. however, why did you feel it was needed to state the race of the cingular rep?. how does this help the story? seems a little ummm.....lets just say "prejudice" imho.

I left Cingular for AT&T about 2 years ago. When i signed up with Cingular my first bill pratically beat me home. When I called to ask about ti they explained that they are the only company that charges a month in advance. So I had my last bill for the cell phone company I was leaving and my first bill with Cingular at the same time. Then when I left Cingular for AT&T they sent me another bill for the last month. I called and explained that there shouldn't be a last bill since they charge a month in advance. I hadn't kept my first bill from 2 years ago and nod nothing to argue the point with. Beware they will get an extra month's charge out of you. But that was my only complaint with Cingular.
