The signal for cingular is terrible in Texas. You constantly get dropped calls. On top of that the customer service has been horrendous. I've been with them for 4 years and I'm willing to pay a $150. cancleation charge to switch to a different carrier.
I'm not rich I just don't feel like they deserve any more of my business. 2 lines for 4 years and the customer service department acts like they've never been trained in customer service!!! I'm the guy who will tell all my friends, they SUCK.
ROLLOVER AND DIE CINGULAR, I hope they go bankrupt. ATT has their work cut out for them.

    See More: cingular sucks!!!!!!!

I'm with you Dave. I'm in Houston (Clear Lake which is by NASA), and the reception is pathetic. I don't know how they get away with saying they have the fewest dropped calls (I'd bet that they funded the study) because it is bologna. When a call doesn't get dropped, then the reception is so bad that either you are cutting out and the other person cannot hear you, or you hear only ever other word from the other person. It is so frustrating and I've come to the realization that having service with Cingular is an absolute waste of money. We've been with them for three years and our contract is up in the fall and we will be switching to Verizon.

Cingular is a prime example that the bigger a company gets, the more they screw their customers.

"Fewest dropped calls Nationwide"...not where you just live.

No service provider is perfect. You should have done your research 1st which provider has the best coverage before signing up for a contract. Even BlkBear pointed out in another post, some geographical areas are more suited for CDMA than GSM and vice versa. Now you're complaining because you think the bigger the company is, more customers are getting screwed. A bigger company just has more things to maintain because of higher volume. And forgive me if Cingular isn't oh-so perfect, they can't maintain every account. Everyone makes mistakes now and again. And by all means, go with Verizon when you contract is up. But don't say that Cingular funded "that" study. If Cingular actually did, they would have named the company that did it in their ads (whether it is commercial, magazine, etc.), because that would fall under sponsorship.

    Punctuation is a virtue.

Dave, if customer service is what you're after, check in with T-Mobile and Verizon. They're the top two ranked companies for customer service. Cingular's new upgrade policies are going to put them even further down on the list. If Cingular isn't working well where you live, I'm not convinced that T-Mobile will be any better...but that's what the 14 day trial period is for. Try them for a week or so and if their coverage/call quality is satisfactory, then you'll probably be happy with them. T-Mobile and Verizon have been switching back and forth between #1 and #2 for customer service in consumer reports for years.

edit: ...and I just realized that this thread is two years old. Sorry.

    Re: cingular sucks!!!!!!!

I deal with the same thing all the time in the Sprint forum. Every provider has its own set of pros and cons, or better coverage in some areas than others, but when someone has a problem they automatically think they are with the worst cell phone company in the world and they feel obligated to tell thousands of complete strangers about it, sometimes over and over again in multiple threads or even on different forums.

I always remember something I learned in retail management. If you do something to make one customer very satisfied with their service, they might tell one or two people about it. But if you make one person feel like they've been somehow cheated, just one person, they are going to go around telling everyone they know and even complete strangers about the "terrible and unfair experience" they had; shouting on rooftops, so to speak.

Yeah, it's the worst when they do nothing but come into your store to spout off how terrible the service is when there are other customers in the store. I usually ask those people to leave if they're not going to buy anything which makes them even angrier. Most of the time, customers that were in the store before the angry person comes in laugh about the angry person after s/he is gone.

Thanks for the attitude. Is someone taking this a little too personally? I'm sharing my experience with Cingular with the other people on this forum. If you don't like that, tough.

According to Consumer Reports and other publications, it is not just here in Houston where Cingular ranks among the worst for service (here in Houston, they are ranked above only T-Mobile and only by one point). It's the same for nearly *every* major market. As for doing research, we did, and chose the one that we thought would provide coverage no matter where we went, as having service while traveling was an important issue.

As for larger companies having poorer service, that has been my experience for nearly everything, especially utilities. And every time a company would merge with another company, the quality of service would deteriorate. I've also read that many people who had AT&T Wireless for years are now having major problems since the merger with Cingular and are switching carriers.

Keep in mind that the customer service sucks no matter which company you deal with. I can't speak about cingular but I can say that about sprint and verizon.

That seems to be the case with everything, not just cell phone providers. It's a shame. Lots of these people that hate one service provider will switch to another and bad mouth their old provider. But then, when their new provider does something to make them angry, their new provider becomes the "worst network ever." People really need to realize that cell phone providers, like every other business, are run by people and that because of this, there is no way for ANY provider to be perfect. You just have to deal with it. And just because one provider isn't "perfect" enough for you, does NOT necessarily mean that the provider "sucks."
