Hey, I need a new phone and I have been looking at several different ones. One is the V3 Razr but the price is the biggest deterrent there since I do not wish to sign a new contract because I am already under one and even so it is very expensive. It also doesn't seem very good for text messaging which I do quite often. The flat keypad may not be good for that.

I have been thinking about getting an unlocked sidekick 2 (very different - I realize) and using it on cingular. I have read a lot of info on the phone but not in relation to its use on other networks. If there is an internet or data plan with cingular would this be compatable? Also, is it worth getting if all I will be doing is text messaging and using it as a normal phone? Are there enough other useful features to use on the phone that dont require you to be on the tmobile network? I send a lot of text messages everyday so the full keypad is very attractive, but I also have heard it has no vibrating ring function and cant really get many good ringtones, is this true? Do you have to open it up to dial or can you somehow do that with the screen closed? Will it fit in my pocket? is it uncomfotable on your face as a phone?

I also understand that it can be used as an organizer, is this true, even just as a datebook without links to the internet would be nice. Basically I want to know if its normal use as a phone is not too inconvenient or obtrusive to warrant it being used for easier text messaging and as an everyday phone. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

well, cingular did just come out with an LG that flips similar to the sidekick. if you take a regular cell phone, say a nokia 6010 and u added about another 1/4 inch to its thickness and made the bottom flip out thats what the lg would be like. The phone is vertical, then horizontally it slides out with a full keyboard.

I work for Suncom and we sell the hiptop which is the exact same as the sidekick. If you did use it with cingular you probally coudnt use one of there data packages because when we sell it it has a specific hiptop package, however you could use it for making calls and text messaging.
