Cingular uses deceptive practices or they can’t count – you decide.

This is a bit like spitting into the ocean, but if I can prevent one person from going with Cingular I’ll feel a tiny bit better.

Coverage in my area (Dallas) sucks and I want to cancel (won’t go into many reasons). Cingular CS insists this is my 31st day. My calculation of 30 days is as follows:

Started service on Saturday February 26th and today is Monday March 28th. Four weeks between Saturday February 26th and Saturday March 26th is 28 days plus Sunday and Monday makes 30 days, right? WRONG!!

After a half hour on the phone with CS I went back to the store, here's the dialogue:

Me: "Today is Monday. If I told you I were going to Hawaii in seven days, what day of the week would you think I am leaving?”

    Manager: "Monday".

Me: “And how many days are there in four weeks?”

    Manager: “Twenty-eight”.

Me: “So if I bought a phone on a Saturday, twenty eight days later would be a Saturday, right?”

    Manager: “Right.”

Me: “Add Sunday and today and that’s thirty days, right”

Manager: “No, our system doesn’t calculate it that way.”

At least four other customers in the store agree this is the 30th day. Every time I insist I’m not past 30 days, the manager (and cust service) all respond with “Our system doesn’t calculate it that way. I’m sorry.” They’re drones trained to state the company policy knowing full well they’re wrong.

While the manager is on the phone with c.s., I strike up conversation with another unhappy customer. Turns out he’s a pastor and agrees with my calculation. I say to the manager “He’s a pastor and says this is my 30th day.” She says, “I didn’t say I disagree with you, but that’s not the way our system calculates it.”

And now for the icing on the cake: I went in on Saturday (the 28th or 29th day depending on whom you believe) to cancel but cust service was closed for the day (6pm CST). Sunday was Easter and everything was closed. The sales rep told me he couldn’t cancel service from the store, only customer service could do it.

Poor coverage, phones that don’t work (I returned two Treo 650’s), dropped calls, high prices, $18 activation fees for migrating from ATTWS to Cingular: I can deal with all that. Flat out lies and people who know full well I’m right and look me in the eye and state the company line, I can’t stand.

Do not give your money to companies (and people) who lie!!

See More: Cingular not only sucks, they lie too!!

    Amen! Amen! Amen!

I am so glad to hear it is not just me! Cingular is by far the WORST company I have ever had to deal with in my life. Their cellular service sucks, their phones suck, their coverage sucks and at the top of the list in sucking is their customer service! I am on my 3rd phone and this one isn't any better. I get dropped constantly, and they keep dropping things from my plan. One week I'll have the ability to text message, the next week who knows. In 5 years with AT&T I never had any problems. I have been on the phone with the "LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE" department more than 15 hours total since January 5th. I came on this forum to try to find a way to get out of my contract without paying their jacked up fees.

PLEASE EVERYONE...... BEWARE OF CINGULAR. IF YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY OTHER COMPANY, DO SO.

I suuuuure do love cingular! never any problems, service everywhere I go..never over my minutes...never a billing error...had many a phone through them, and they all work great (though some better than others). Its too bad you had this horrible experience...but others have had the exact same problem as you...only with another company. welcome to the cell phone industry. Some times you get lucky...sometimes not. Hope you have better luck next time.
    The Progression: Nokia 5165 --> Moto v120t --> Moto V60ti --> samsung s307 --> Moto V400 --> Blackberry 6280 --> Sony Z500a --> Nokia 6230 --> Nokia 6820

I'm almost as addicted to Cell phones as i am to VW's. Almost.

All phone companies suck. Play the game by their rules and win where you can.
