I currently have 9-months left on my contract with AT&T wireless. I have a local plan based in Maryland but am moving to Michigan in 2-weeks. I called AT&T (Cingular) to inform them of this and was told that I have three options:
(1) Change my local service to Michigan with a new MI cell phone number and live out my remaining contract.
(2) Get a new national plan with Cingular which requires a new phone and a new contract.
(3) Keep the phone with the local MD plan and pay roaming charges to use it in MI.
Now the PROBLEMS:
(1) The town in MI I am moving to does not have cingualr or AT&T local service at this time.
(2) I do not want to renew my contract with AT&T or with Cingular.
(3) It would be foolish to pay all roaming charges on a MD local plan in MI.
I was wondering what do you guys think I can do here? I have not decided what to do yet and I figure that Cingular will not be very willing to support me here. They will try to force me to take a national plan and renew my contract for another 2-years. If they cannot support my phone at my new residence in MI is that a violation of the contract on their part? Can I break the contract on this point with them? Any recommendations on how I should approach this would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
