This is a Warning for all AT&T Wireless customers...
Cingular Wireless is underhandedly blackmailing former AT&T customers by denying them options to add/delete any features, overcharging items, making intentional billing errors, and taking the liberty to play around with contract obligations.
This is being done to force them out of the AT&T agreement and into a 2 year contract with them. Many former AT&T customers have good plans -- much better than Cingular and are finding this extremely unfair. This dirty business practice is being carried out widely by Cingular Wireless, and many customer service agents have been briefed to be less helpful to AT&T customers.
Everyone who believes this to be dirty business practice should boycott Cingular Wireless, and go with their main competitor -- T-Mobile instead...they have better plans anyway.

You are dead wrong. If you are an at&t customer you are considered onthe "Blue" side of cingular. You are still able to make changes on your account. And Tmobile is definatly NOT cingular main competitor are you nuts?

No we just have a lot of at&t customers come in. We are able to take care of them still, however I would much rather sell them a cingular contract =)

Today I heard from some of my friends about how hard cingular is making it for former AT&T customer, regarding honoring a good plan they had with AT&T, making changes to account. I guess there must be something going on. No smoke without fire. Any anyway, cingular's reputation about poor customer service is common knowledge.

As an AT&T wireless customer for the past 8 months, I went into a Cingular Store to add another phone to my plan. I was told if I wanted to change my account, I would have to go to a Cingular plan and purchase all new phones since the AT&T phones do not work with Cingular towers. (I currently have two phones on my plan). Did anybody else run into this situation?

I'm currently on an AT&T family plan. I'm going to be moving away from my local network soon, so I called AT&T/cingular to switch to a national calling plan so I don't have to deal with roaming charges. They give me some BS that i cannot do it and that I need to sign a new cingular contract and stuff. I'm not sure what the OP said is true, but I definately believe that cingular is trying to get rid of all the former AT&T customers.

Cingular is horrid
Started posting then got kicked off so sorry if there's a partial post. I am what Cingular is referring to as a "former AT&T Wireless" customer. Overall, my cell reception etc is the same with the merger. Where my angst lies is with the entity Cingular and how they are treating the customers. They are decidely making it difficult for the AT&T folks like myself. I just spent THREE hours on the phone with them today - I guess I just felt like being totally frustrated. I have a very good plan that is grandfathered in from AT&T (as a consideration to me, per customer service). Cingular has no problem taking my money every month but they aren't going to do anything else for me. They are reducing any possible benefits that may have been available to me as an AT&T customer to force me into changing plans to a Cingular one. I understand the business tact - they need to get the clients/divisions merged, don't need older technology hanging around, etc. However, then my take is that they should work with me to transfer over to a Cingular plan that is consistant with what I currently have. Instead, I'm being told stay exactly as-is with my plan for as long as I can if I'm happy with it but if I make a DECISION to move over to a cingular plan then I will be paying either $10 less for 380 LESS anytime minutes or $10 more for 80 LESS anytime minutes. And that doesn't take into play weekends or night considerations. On one hand CS is doing the party line of "we're all cingular" but once I'm identified as an AT&T customer I'm literally S.O.L. There is so much more but I'm saving it for the letter I'm writing on the off-chance I actually get somebody's attention at Cingular who cares whether or not they lose me as a customer. T-mobile just had "my plan" advertised.

For the former ATT customers, while yes ATT had better plans--they didnt have a choice, when we launch seibel all hell broke loose, we had to make up for it somewhere...and being that ATT gave away the farm, they had to sell, they were loosing more money than they we taking in. Working in customer care I have to say that the ATT ppl are the most difficult to deal with b/c they act like (most of them anyway) that we should give them whatever they want for free. I know it sucks that if you want to get a new phone you have to change your plan, yadda yadda yadda, but its no different when ATT went from digital to gsm, the only difference is that its not the same company it once was. While cingular employees will offer you what they can, if you dont like it, go somewhere else. Its not dirty business practices to change rate plans, or whatever it is your complaining about, read you contract as it is all listed there. ATT customer can add features to their plans from what is left to add (which isnt much--who wants to add 300 txt msg for 9.99 when you can have 1000/9.99 if you just migrate to the big C) I dont want anyone to think i am being one sided as I do have sprint service (which i have never had an issue with other than customer service) but i know from my experience with this merger that its going to be the same with sprint/nextel.

Same Problem
I spent an hour today with a very nice but seemingly inept lady who couldn't answer many questions about adding a line, etc. She couldn't even answer the simpelest questions. It seems like Cingular's doesn't really want the old ATT customers because there is no incentive to switch. When I'm forced to make the choice Cingular will be just one of many cell phone providers that will compete for my business. Strange business plan.
The good news is if you want to switch to Cingular it is fairly easy to unlock a GSM Nokia phone provided by ATT so it can be used on Cingular.
