In order to port your number over to Cingular you should had done it before cancelling your service with T-Mobile.

Most carriers will put the number back into the pool after about 60-90 days (although some have been rumored to only do 30 days, leaving to people getting calls for the people who had the phone number last time).

The time to port would have been before you canceled T-Mobile. As soon as you canceled they throw the number back into the holding group until it comes up in the regular distrobution pool again (the 60-90 days)

Now that I said all that... Since the number is still back in T-Mobiles 'do not give out yet' list, cingular MAY be able to request the number be ported over (since t-mobile can't use it yet anyway). Worth a call to CS to see if it's possible (I doubt it, but hey, you never know).
