I have an unlocked phone and a Cingular Sim card that came with the phone. If I am wanting to activate phone through cingular, do I have to sign a contract or can I just start paying monthly? I currently have a phone and service with them, just wanting to add daughter on without having a life long commitment to them.

yea you would have to sign a contract, but you can request just a one year since you already have a phone and dont need to purchase another one, so then you don't have that "life long" commitment to them. Unless you wnt to do prepaid, where you buy yourminutes as you go!

Actually.... you can sign up with cingular without any contract. To do this however, you have to deny all promotions (discounted phone, no M2M, ect). Any of the free crap that comes with a plan you must reject. Your best bet is to go into cingular, say you have the phone, and just want to add service, they should be able to hook you up (don't use the sim card that came with it, it will be tied to someone else's account, unless a rep changes it in the system).

yea well no m2m would definitely defeat the purpose of him adding his kid to his plan, since im sure he would want to talk to her for free. But if you haggle im sure you can get away with it, you could threaten to cancel or somethin, but cingular's customer service isnt always too nice, so good luck to ya!
