do all companies charge the same fees and taxes?
for example, i have a $39.99 a month plan with verizon, but it ends up being like $55 after taxes and fees. is that how cingular works also?

do people here only answer posts if the OP is a female or something?
i come to this forum to try to get help and advice, but no one will answer my questions.

i would assume that taxes are taxes across the board. i think a carrier would get in big trouble for raking customers with fake taxes to increase revenue. ask a sales rep for a tax breakdown. they'll do it.

would it be better to get a motorola v551 with www.consumercellular.com and pay $30 a month for 400 minutes no rollover and no night or weekend minutes and no contract or would it be better to get a good phone that i really like and go straight through cingular paying $39.99 a month for 450 minutes per month, rollover, and 5000 night and weekend minutes with a 2 year contract?
why they don't make more choices is beyond me. i'm leaning towards the www.consumercellular.com plan with the v551, even though i'm not really thrilled with the v551.Last edited by pontifex; 11-29-2005 at 09:57 PM.

personally, i'm not sure.
i hear good things about the v551. i'm looking at getting that phone, as i hear it is basically the same as a razr.
for $9 more thru cingular it sounds like you get more. extra 50 anytime minutes, rollover and night and weekend minutes. but you have a contract.
while no contract is good, you might get slammed with over minute charges with consumer cellular. i'd look a lot closer to the fine print to compare them.
what phones are your cingular store offering? also, maybe cingular has a similar plan. print out the consumercellular details and discuss them with your local cingular guy.

I did some comparing (using my zip):
Cingular.com:
Anytime Minutes 450
Night & Weekend Minutes 5000
Mobile to Mobile minutes Unlimited
Long distance $0.00
Roaming charges $0.00
Additional minutes 45¢/minute
One-time activation fee $36.00
Contract Length 2 years
v557 *Retail Price: $149.99 -$50.00 Mail-in Rebate = $99.99 *Your Price
ConsumerCellular.com
400 min $30.00
Additional min $0.25
v551 $125
Activation $35
ConsumerCellular doesn't mention anything about rollover, has no nights and weekend minutes (when you'll burn most minutes), and doesn't mention mobile to mobile.
It sounds like a cheap/affordable plan for light users, but if you use your phone more than 10 minutes a day, you might run into problems. At 400 minutes, you can average 13 minutes per day. At $.25/additional minute, if you talk 15 min/day, you're up to the cost of the cingular plan (due to overage charges). That's not a lot of leniancy.
I think looking at that, I'd go with Cingular.com. But check out some other sources online. Search these forums, a lot of threads mention great dealers. Some of them offering free Razr phones with a contract.
Choose wisely, it sucks to get burned later on. Good luck!
