    hi,

My daughter lost yet another phone. When I called Cingular, the rep told me that I could buy a SIM card, have it programed to her phone number and put it in any phone that Cingular uses.

is this true? Are the SIM cards actually all the same between phone models and manufacturers?

if they are not the same, how do I know which SIM cards fit in which phones? She has lost or broken so many of the flip style camera phones that I really do not want to buy her another.

One more thing, can anyone recomend an expensive and durable model?

    Thank you in advance.

The rep is right. You can just go out and buy any Cingular phone and put the chip in it. The important point is that it should be a Cingular phone, it won't work with a T-Mobile phone.

Did you really mean expensive? Your daughter is lucky to have a father like you.

It may also work in unlocked phones, which means the phone will work with almost any sim card. As for a phone recommendation I haven't had it myself, but I like the new Cingular LG CE500 flip phone. It has a lot of nice features and it looks pretty durable to me.

    Thank you!

(I wanted to get her a CHEAP replacement, I was probably thinking of how expensive it was getting to keep replacing them... )

Sounds like it to me. You definitely wouldn't have to get a new number.

Everything in your account is associated with that SIM. Your name is in there, your phone # as well as which features are provisioned on your device. You shouldn't lose anything and NO you won't have to change your #.
