...after a year and a half, it's finally started going to crap.
It's an LG L1150, which I purchased on an AT&T contract. Within the last week or so, it's started intermittently not picking up or dialing calls. Apparently, in order to replace it, I will have to upgrade to a comparable Cingular plan, which I'm not sure I want to do. So I have a couple questions:
Is there anything I need to look out for when switching over? Any Cingular plan drawbacks or hidden plan features?
Alternately, couldn't I just buy the same exact phone from a third party and switch the SIM card over? Seems like it should work and be about the same cost as getting a new phone (especially when I factor in learning curve and replacing accessories.) Anything I should be aware of?

Just to add to Brad's answer, you can even buy a different LG model that's compatable with the accessories you already have, most of the time some model have interchangeable accessories...oh and the the sim will not fry, but it will just get locked out from being used if you enter the wrong code after three tries.

That's good to hear, i don't always have the answer to every question posted on this board either, but a good suggestion like the one you made on your reply always helps and hopefully the OP will appreciate that.

Sorry for the confusion Spoffy...
if it's an AT&T branded phone you don't need to worry about the phone being unlocked only if it's branded to a different carrier i.e. Cingular, T-Mobile.

being that the phone is att, and 1.5 yrs old, is it possible that the sim is 32k. if so, will that sim work with a newer gsm phone which usually run on 64k cards. i ask because i swear another user and i discussed this before and it wouldn't work that way.
i guess this is aimed at tony.
