Cingular seems to be upping the rates to higher than what I pay for cable tv ($40)! Are the any carriers left that have good plans in that price range?

Well for $29.99/mo. with T-Mobile, you get 300 anytime min. and Unl. Weekends. It is Nationwide with included roaming and long distance. Sprint is offering for the same price Unl. Nights aswell but only 200 anytime min.

    Yikes !!

I'd have a hard time holding it down to 300 mins, before the weekends hit.

Yep, thats why I have never been able to have a plan for only $30/mo. Well except for my employee plan, but other than that I would of went over my minutes every month.

Cingular will be coming back out with a $29.99 plan. I have details, but cannot access it at this time.

In my opinion, I would say Sprint has the best $30/mo. plan. Unl. nights & weekends, 200 min. with included roaming and long distance.

like everything else, rates on calling plans are never guaranteed to be around for long, and in Cingular's case they only seem to go up, lately T-Mobile has been looking more promising for me.

Yup I have also been looking at T-Mobile. In my area Cingular and T-Mobile are about the same as far a coverage. TM's plan pricing seems a bit nicer even if they don't offer early nights.

But I figured I'd wait a month or two to see what promo's Cingular might come out with, before opting for the ETF. Since it's only $150 might be worth it if TM has something a lot more atractive than any of CIng's pomo offerings.
