They never seem to advertise it, and I've read a few people having difficulties trying to get Cingular to let them do it. But it'll really help me to find out if they're they best service or not.

It's not hard at all if that's what you plan to do. BUT you need to read and undertsand the contract FULLY before you sign it, so that you know what you will have to pay for and what you won't have to pay for if you do decide to cancel before the 30days is up.
If after reading you you do not understand fully, have everything you don't understand explained to you.
READ fully the contract's 30 DAY Cancellation Policy.
If after reading the contract, and your don't agree with it, walk away.

Now I have had friends buy a large pre-paid SIM (1000 hours) and after getting to know the reps, ask to borrow one of their higher end phones to try it out for a few days. And those that had Cingular as a carrier, ask if the store or rep had a loaner to test drive, and left deposits to use the phone for a few days, with their SIM card in the loaner.

Excellent idea Bear. One thing I did also want to mention is this.....
Now, I personally haven't reviewed Cingular's contract since I last worked for them in '01, but back then, if the phone had more than 60 minutes used on it, then you couldn't return it for a full refund. This is because legally they could no longer call the phone "new." I am not sure if that policy has changed since then, but I wanted to let you know what it was back then just to give you a heads up.

My parents did the 30 day trial thing. They didnt like it and went with Nextel an Cingular sent them a bill for 411.23 for charges incurred after they turned it in. They are still weoking with them to fix it and it has been 3 months. But they sent them to collections first.

Hopefully they didn't think that they wouldn't have to pay for the minutes they used during the trial period. If so, then they did not take time to read the agreement and I doubt Cingular would excuse the charges.

Re: How hard is it to try a phone/plan for 30-days from Cingular?
Nope they still had their nextels when they tried Cingular. Their Nextel contract was up and they had thought Cingular may have been better coverage. But they couldn't get reception and used the phone 3 times. Their bill was 59.99 for the month and they paid that and turned the phones in. Then they just renewed their contract with Nextel. Then Cingular sent them the bill showing the 60 something credit for payment and new bill with the service dates showing after they turned in the phones was 411.23. HMMMM damn cingular. Thats who I have now.!

When they received their bill, what were the charges that came out to $400?

Re: How hard is it to try a phone/plan for 30-days from Cingular?
They Never received a detailed bill, only a demand for payment from a collection agency. They then call Cingular C/S and My dad said that it was a mistake and she would take care of it and then a couple days later another bill from the collection agency so my dad called cingular again and they showed that he had called but no reason as to why and they said the 411.23 was for phone calls after the date they turned in the phones.
