Sorry to be a newbee, but I am. Is there a way to remove the roaming symbol from the home screen of my new, unlocked V3. Cingular has it registered on their system, but was unable to remove it, even by resetting the phone. I'm using an ATT gsm sim card.

    Thanks -

Sorry, this is not a forum for cell phone help. I'm moving you over to the Cingular forum, and maybe someone there will be able to help.

Why don't you switch over to Cingular?

    Switch to cingular!

I'm an old At&T customer on GPRS and have a monthly program that Cingular can't even come close to. In order to move to the full Cingular system I'd have to give up my AT&T program and sign up for 2 years - that's something I'd never do. Two years is nuts! You should never agree to a contract over 1 year. Thus I'll live with the roaming symbol, at least until AT&T takes over from Cingular! It's interesting how things that go around, come around! All of the Cingular stores and name will go back to AT&T, now that AT&T has purchased Bellsouth, the 60% owner of Cingular. (At&T owned the other 40%.)

to correct you with what i've recently learned, at&t was bought out by sbc. sbc adopted the 'new at&t' brand name as it was recognized more by consumers. i believe sbc also owned or had financial interest with bellsouth. and if you check out the sbc website you will see the the cingular issue is really a merger of bellsouth and at&t to 'streamline' the corporate and management aspects.

from what i hear, it's not definite that cingular will be renamed, but it's a pretty strong possibility.

even still, there will come a day when your at&t contract will no longer be honored by cingular (or att). and if cingular changes their name, bear in mind that it will still be operated by the same people. translation: you'll probably need to sign a contract.

There is always T-Mobile if I'm not happy at AT&T/Cingular!

that is true! basically the same thing, as far as coverage. i would take a hard look at them if i wasn't partial to cingular.
