I tried searching for this info. but was not successful. I would like to give my son my old motorola v600 to use with Cingulars prepaid service, is this possible. Can I just buy a prepaid SIM for this phone or will I have to buy their Go Phone.

    Thanks

Yes, this will work great. Buy an expensive Gophone prepaid SIM from the cingular store, or buy the same thing for very cheap off ebay. A cingular branded phone will except any cingular SIM, including prepay.

If you still have the old cingular SIM and it is deactivated, you might be able to reactivate it as a cingular prepay account. It's worth a call to cingular to see it it would work.

One other thing. Cingular's prepaid GoPhone is rather expensive. If you want to pay the $1/day fee so your son can make lots of mobile to mobile calls it may be worth it to you. But you can get better deals on cingular prepaid. The $1/day or 25 cent per minute is rather steep. Cingular allows other companies to use its network and resell it's service.

    One company is www.beyondwirelessgsm.com.
They have rates from 10-14 cents/min.
    Another is http://www.o2wirelessservice.com/ind...fc28c86c10ea96.
They charge 14 cent/min for all of their cards.

Neither of these companies charge daily fees, and are a lower minute rate. Plus, since they operate on Cingular's network, the coverage will be identical to Cingular's GoPhone. Also, because they resell Cingular's network, you can use their SIM in your Cingular-branded phone, and you wont have to even unlock it!

Thank you, roberts 1953 for the information. I will take your advise and just buy a prepaid SIM.

You can't reactivate a deactivated sim threw cingular. You can use any type of phone as a pre pay or go phone as long as it is cingular compatable.
