Hi I am new here. Seems like evryone here is pretty good with phones. My question is about cingulars media net charges.

Just got a black Razr yesterday with the cingular nation plan (900 minutes) for 59.99 a month. I know this doesn't include wireless internet and it costs $.01 per kilobyte. My question is does this mean when I press world button (button right above green talk button. It connects to the browser. Does this mean I am using the wireless internet and being charged? Or will it alert me when being charged? Should I just never press that button? That would suck b/c I have only had the phone two days I have already accidentaly pressed it like 5 times. Then I try to exit fast and it exits then says somthing like 72 bytes transferred. What does that mean?

    Thanks for any help.

    Brandon

Howdy Brandon and welcome to CPF!

And yes every single time you hit that button you log on to the internet and yes you are charge for it.

What I did was go into the settings, find the Medianet log on (under WEBSESSIONS), create a new log on called DEFAULT, and change all it's settings to 0's if there are words in the setting line, make the word a 0.

Then once it's created, arrow over DEFAULT in the list of items and hit the MENU button and make DEFAULT your default web setting.

Now every time you hit the World button, you it will try to log on and can't. This way when and if you do want to log on, you will have to look for the medianet Log from the menu to log on. I did this just so anyone borrowing my phone or "finding" it, can't rack up net charges by accident, or because they found a phone that has net access.

Also if you have the option, lock the web browser, so you have to enter a pass word to use it.

Or you can call Customer Service and tell them to turn the internet and Medianet OFF oh your account.

Thanks for your help man! I tryed to do what you wrote and got as far creating a new log called default. What setting do I change to 0? After I name it default it ask for homepage/ service type 1 gateway ip 1/ port 1 domain 1/ speed/ etc/ etc.. Do I change all of these to zero (and what about the ones like hompage where it won't let me put in a zero- maybe it needs the letter o?

    Thanks again,
    Brandon

FYI..Cingular has live tech chat online, they might be able to walk you thru it. www.cingular.com You can manage your account, send sms to another Cingular blue or orange customer from there and find out all kinds of info Cingular related. They do offer unlimited MediaNet for a monthly fee of course, if you do want to add/use the feature and not have to worry about exceeding budget if you have a budget for it.

What I did was change every line that allowed editing to 0 (ZERO), one single 0 is fine.

Ok man thanks for you help so far! Now you said to arrow over defualt in the list of items. Where is that? How do I get there from the home screen? Right now I just made a new entry called defualt and changed all settings to zero. Saved it and I am back at the home scree.

Thanks again for your help, Brandon.

You do that after you create it. You will still be in the WEB SESSIONS menu

After you create it you will see the list of Medinet logons, you use the arrow key at this point to highlight the one you just made, THEN you press the menu key to give you the menu options that are SET AS DEFAULT, EDIT, NEW etc

BlkBear1. Thanks a million. I was one of the probably millions of people who accidently hit connect button once a month or so and racked up a $.30 charge or so. Just enough to be annoyed, not big enough to hastle Cingular about I followed your instructions and they work like a charm. Much appreciated.
