Alright, I'm a complete cell phone newbie and I need some help. I'm planning on getting Cingular's 25 cents/minute prepaid plan. My question is this: I'm hoping to get a Motorola v276 or Nokia 6061, but do these phones work with the plan or do I have to get an actual Cingular phone? Any and all help would be appreciated.

If the phone is branded as "cingular" then it will work right out of the box. If it isn't a cingular phone but is a GSM phone on 850 and 1900 frequencies, and is unlocked, then you can put a cingular SIM in it and it will work for voice. You will have to configure then unlocked phone for data and mms. The 6061 would work if it is from cingular or is unlocked because it is a GSM phone with 850/1900. The v276 will never work with cingular because it is a different technology CDMA, as used with Verizon, Sprint, and others.

One other thing I would mention before you take the plunge with the $.25/min plan. There are some prepaid companies that resell cingulars same exact network for half the rate. One of my favorites is Beyond GSM | Get Connected - . Since they resell cingulars market they will use the same phones, and same towers as Cingular PAYG, but for half the price. Rates are 10-14 cents/min, expirations up to 90 days, minimum cost is $7.50/month. You can get a starker kit for $10 that comes with the SIM and $6 of airtime. The sweet spot is the $15, 114 minutes, 60 day expiration, at 13 cents/min.

BW rates are cheaper then GoPhone.
These maps are slightly different. BW map is out of date, which seems to be the common denominator of most prepaid MVNO coverage maps. Becuase BW resells cingular's native network the coverage will be identical. For the most accutate coverage map for BW go with cingular's coverage map.
