Hi,
You may remember some of my previous posts....our cell phone (Cingular) does not work in the building where my dh works. We currently share a phone, but we need to get him his own phone now. We do not want to continue with Cingular since it's useless to him at work. Our contract is up in February. Do you know of a way (besides the resellular things) to get out of our contract? If I explain that it doesn't work in his building, will that be enough?
And just so I can know, if they agree to let me out early, what do I do about taking my phone number with me? And when will the contract end? Right after my phone call or some set date?
TIA!

Re: How can I get out of my contract?
telling them it doesnt work in a building WILL NOT get you out of the contract so dont do that...theres not alot you can do besides telling them you moved to an area they do not provide service (alaska...lol)
even guys going overseas arent getting cancelled by most providers now, they are "temporarily suspending" the lines until they return...how nice of them huh. As far as your number, you have to move the number to the new company BEFORE you cancel, once its turned off....you dont own that number anymore..so if they agree to let you out, ask them what date you need to port your number so theres no confusion

You could always pay the ETF.

unless you can find someone who will take over the rest of the contract until feb....then you can do a "change of responsibility" to the other person...then you could still port the number and they would issue another number for that person.

Re: How can I get out of my contract?
yeah, you need to pay the ETF, or stay with cingular until your contract is up in february. you signed a legal contract with cingular, you can't get out of that without consequence unfortunately.

Re: How can I get out of my contract?
It just stinks, ya know? He got this new job in February of this year and ever since, I've not been able to call him. It gets frustrating with 3 kids under the age of 5. lol Oh well, thanks for the input. I guess we wait!

Resellular is a good way to go btw, as the person does not have to live in your area to take over the contract (it's easier if they do, but it can be done over the phone). If you want to deal only with someone locally, you can state that on resellular, or craigslist (www.craigslist.org)
If it's that big a deal, see if another carrier wil give you a good enough deal on two phones to make it worth paying the ETF, the switch to that carrier. And if the phone number the current cell phone is important, have that ported over when you switch.
But as the others have stated, just because the phone does not have service in one place you have decided to use it, does not get you out of the contract. now if you were to move to an area that does not have Cingular service, THEN you could get out of the contract. But you'd need to live in the area, not just work there. Oh and they would want proof of the move in the form of deposits on utilities, phone, rent etc for the new location, you have moved to. So you can't just say your moving to a town with no Cinguar service.

Re: How can I get out of my contract?
You know, I think you might have an out, if you changed the billing address for the phone, to your hubbies office. it's a long shot, but it's worth a try. But even then there would have to be 0 reception at his office, and the surrounding area. And that would mean there would also have to be 0 reception outside his office as well. None of the carriers say that their service will work 100% indoors.
