Cingular Contract Question

Doing some research for a friend of mine. Him and his wife have a contract with Cingular and it ended a few months back. They are looking to convert to the family plan, and want to get some new phones.

Amazon.com is running a promotion for the Razr phones and he is interested in this deal.

Does anyone know how this would work with his existing account? Would it just tack on another two years to the account, or should he close the previous account before purchasing the new phones?

Amazon purchase has rebates which requires new account sign up.
If you want to remain with cingular, same phone#, you should call them and find out the price for new phones.
Or find a local retailer (not cingular stores) who will give you discounted price for extending the contract.
If you dont care about keeping the same phone numbers, then just sign up for new account with new phone. Check to make sure this is ok, sometimes rebates are only for new customers and may not work for if you have an account with the provider.
