You can insert a SIM card from another GSM carrier to see if it's unlocked. And what are you talking about? The 9100 was carried by Cingular, so it will work with your Cingular SIM card.

Oh, you forgot to mention that you got it straight from Cingular. Then yes, it will be locked to them. You can try the "I'm going out of the country, and I 'd like to use a foreign pre-paid card". They'll fill out a form, and you should be able to get it the next business day at the earliest, a week at the most.

Tell them that it is locked to Cingular. But upon the winning bid, you'll disclose an easy way how to get it unlocked (the out-of -the-country-pre-paid thing). You'll get more interest in your phone. That's what I do with my auctions, and they turn out great.

Just tell the winning bidder that if he/she has a Cingular account, they can call them up and do that "pre-paid" thing I mentioned earlier. And if they don't have a Cingular account, just tell them to ask a friend that has a Cingular account to do it for them. After that, don't elaborate anymore...no more contact. Just ship the item and wish them the best. They can figure it out themselves. Also, if you keep in contact with the buyer and they find something wrong with the phone, they might hold you liable.

Sorry to be a pain, I just want to make sure I have this right. So an existing cingular customer will have no problem transferring their SIM card into the phone. If they have a different carrier, then they will have to call and ask for the Out of country pre paid option.

Thank your for your patience and knowledge!

No worries, man. It's better than not asking any questions at all, then getting your @ss bitten hard later on.

Yes, a Cingular customer with their current SIM card will work with the F9100 because it is Cingular branded.

Well, the thing is that if someone was to go out of the country, they would have to pay roaming charges because it is outside of the Cingular coverage area. The customer would not want to use their service then find out that they racked up about $3000 worth of charges on their next Cingular bill. So the best thing is to get a pre-paid SIM card that they can use overseas. And they only way to do that while still keeping their current phones is to have them unlocked. It's just a simple way of trying to keep the customer happy.
