text messaging

i am trying to decide if i should get a texting plan.

how much does a texting plan cost? probably the lowest one, i know tmobiles lowest is 400, what is cingulars lowest and how much does it cost?

i may not use a lot of text messages, unless i get a phone that has aim installed, and if my phone does not have aim i wont be getting a plan. how much does it cost to send one message w/o a text plan? i kno there is one company that charges $2.40 each.
