Ok, so I bought the LG Cu500 ( I believe - the state of the art one)

And had multiple problems with it. First, reception was sub par. Second, i dropped it and the screen broke without much impact (my own fault - but i've had phones before that took tons of abuse) I actually found out cingular doesn't even warranty this model (maybe just by me, i dont know) which is telling.

    BUT MOST IMPORTANT:
When the phone would lose reception, it would go off network for like 30-60 seconds, before it would re-register. As opposed to every single phone i've ever owned that seems to try to sync itself to the network every second or two, so even if im in a black spot, if i walk a few spots i will have reception again. This led to me never ever getting calls, and having to turn the phone off and on in order to get reception. HUGE pain in the ass.

So basically, what i'm looking for in a new phone: Reception, network syncing, maybe a camera. I Don't need fancy multimeda features or data streaming mp3 playing etc. Just an old school hardcore PHONE.

    Please advise

Re: New twist - help me pick a phone

I'm currently using this phone to do R&D testing of the Video Share feature that Cingular will be coming out with soon. Basically I was given this phone to use for 3 weeks with unlimited airtime, text messaging, internet, & video share minutes. I am also carrying my RAZR with me as well. I have discovered that there is a considerable difference between the coverage on the 3G network & GSM. In a 10 minute period of time, I had 3 dropped calls even though I had decent reception at the time the call dropped. As a test I had a friend place phone calls on my RAZR at the same time & the calls did not drop.

I am a promoter for an entertainment company & so I spend a lot of time in clubs. I take a lot of pictures during the DJs performance & when I found out that I would be testing this phone & that it has a 1.3 megapixel camera, I expected it to take awesome pictures regardless of the lighting conditions. Wow, was I wrong. I will be perfectly honest with you, my RAZR takes better pictures in dark lighting conditions than the LG even though the camera on the LG is better. However, if I am outside for example, the LG takes much better pictures than my RAZR. I sat there & messed around with the settings on the LG while in the club, hoping that I could get a decent picture taken with that phone, but I was unsuccessful.

One feature this phone has that I've never seen anything like it on other phones is a thing called Music ID. I'm not sure if it's a thing specifically for the phone, but I think it's awesome. Here's how it works..... let's say you're at a club & the DJ is playing a song that you like after hearing it & you want to know who the DJ is & what's the name of the song....... well, all you need to do is turn this feature on & the phone "listens" to the music & then identifys the name of the artist & the title of the track. It's been extremely useful for me!

When I am inside the club, I obviously can't hear my phone ring & I absolutely hate the fact that I can barely feel my RAZR when I set it on vibrate for when I am at the club. I can't tell you the number of calls that I've missed because I couldn't feel my phone vibrate when someone called me. However, on the LG I don't have these worries. The little motor that runs when my phone vibrates is very strong!!

I use the internet on my phone a lot so I love the fact that the RAZR has a nicely sized screen, but I am annoyed with the screen size on the LG.

I like the fact that you have more memory available on the LG & that recording video is a lot more smooth & uses less memory.

So, if I had to choose between my RAZR & the LG..... the LG would get my vote.
