Okay I'm hoping to finally get a little clarity out of my whole situation. Here goes, I've been reading for the last few days about unlocking my phone to be able to use a different SIM. I used Cingular for about a year or so and just recently found it too expensive, while I still paid it, and my mom never paid my bill because it was in her name, so I guess I'm pretty much cancelled with them. Well the other day I purchased a cingular to go phone activation kit, with the SIM card and everything. I was hoping this would be a better solution for me. I've read about all this junk, I know my phone is locked to Cingular so this whole time I've been thinking I'd definitely have to get my phone unlocked to be able to use this new SIM, which is a hassle in itself. But I just had an idea and was hoping, if you guys could PLEASE clear this up for me, that maybe because my phone is locked to Cingular, but I will actually be putting a Cingular to go SIM in the phone , it could work just fine? I mean I know it won't work for other networks but since they are both Cingular will the new smartchip(SIM) work for my phone?

    Re: Cingular SIM question

If the phone says cingular you should be able to use your cingular sim in it.
The phone does not care as long as the sim is the same company. Should be no problem. As a matter of fact, you can go into a cingular store and buy a sim card and put it into any cingular phone and have the phone work. The features the phone is capable of depend on the provisioning of the sim. For instance, if you have a sim with voice only, and put it in a pda, the phone will work but you will not be able to acces the internet or get your email, or anything beyond telephone service.
