I got a new samsung D807 with a new contract, and manged to crack the uninsurable screen in the second month. Of course 'stress fractures' aren't covered in the warranty, whatever. I am obviously not a person who's lifestyle is compatible with a large exposed screen. I've also realized that I don't need any damn fancy features or to download anything. I just want a phone with good reception and a phone book. If it could also sync with my computer and cost less than $50 or $60, I'd give it a 10 out of 10. I've been trying to look around for a cheap phone offered without a new contract, and have been pretty discouraged.

The Motorola C139 seems to be the only option under $60 that I have found.

So two questions: Are there any alternatives that will work for me besides the C139, possibly with better UI? Also, there seems to be some confusion about the specs. Is there a vibration mode? and Are there multiple numbers allowed per contact in the 100 contact phone book?

And can a C139 easily be switched onto an existing cingular account? what are the costs, etc.

    Thanks

As long as the phone is branded for cingular or unlocked it is simply a matter of putting in the sim. If it is unlocked then you will probably need to enter any network settings. As far as other phones, I really do not know.
I would check ebay to see what phones are in your price range and then check on line to see if they are what you are interested in.

I misread his post. I thought he was trying to sign up for new service. I went back and noticed he just broke his phone and wants a replacement.

LOL first of all the D807 is insurable and the rep that helped you with that phone was probably retarded for not telling you that it is not insurable. Buddy for one you are not going to find a phone that costs 50 bucks that does what you want it to do. Hell the C139 retails at 179 but walmart sells it for 40. the actual cost of these phones is about 10 dollars less than the retail value(why do you think that reps push accessories or text messaging so hard???).

My advice from here would be to talk to some buddies and find out if they have an extra phone laying around so you could swap the sim card. If none are available, check ebay and make sure that the phone is branded by cingular and not an unlocked phone.
