I used to have a Nokia phone with AT&T, and it wasn't the best of service to put it nicely. I recently bought my sister a Siemens SL56 with AT&T, and often times you can't hear what she says on your end, but she can hear you! Does anyone know if this is the cell phone or AT&T, and has anyone else had this problem?

What city do you live in/near? I think the SL56 is supposed to be a pretty decent phone, reception wise.

When I had Alltel, I had the same problem although IMO both my phone and service were crap. When I switched to AT&T, the prob was gone. It may just be that AT&T is crap in your area

I live in WA in the Seattle area. I have heard that you can drop your service provider within 30 days of activation for no charge. Do you know if this is true or not?

If you have AT&T and are in the first 30 days, yup, you can drop. Just have to talk to a rep about it.

Good, because I just got my sister's phone bill and noticed I was charged twice for everything! And when I called AT&T, I gave myself 30 minutes to talk before I had to leave for somewhere, but I spent those 30 minutes on hold! Same thing happened when I got back, 30 minutes on hold, and when I finally did get someone, they dropped the extra activation fee cost, but not the doubled taxes! Don't even ask what happend on the AT&T website, becasue I am in no mood to explain it.

Yea, I was over charged on my last bill and had to wait about 30 minutes on hold. Once I got a person, he put me on hold so he could transfer me to the disputes department or something like that. Apparently they think I have two different phone lines, even though I only have one!

here is a tip. If you go three months with out paying your bill because att screws up they will cut you phone off. send a payment of just your monthly service charge. but do it just before you think it will be cut off. They are gonna charge you 25 dollar reinstatement fee on top off what they think you must pay them.

As much as it sucks -- don't NOT pay them. Trust me on this. I had Sprint POS years ago when they first came to chicago, and I reduced my plan from $100 to $30 a month, but they decided I really wanted the $70 plan. After I received my first bill I asked them to correct it, and they said they wouldn't, and wanted to charge me another $5 to change my plan to the $30. They did cut off my phone service after three months, but it took me TWO YEARS to get those idiots of my credit report.

So... keep paying and complain to the BBB (www.bbb.org) instead. This kind of stuff usually gets you noticed and your bill fixed pretty quickly.

What Nokia phone did you have?

One thing if you cancel your agreement with AT&T within 30 days, if you bought the phone at a cellphone store and they had a rebate form for the phone you won't get the rebate. Thats one of the reasons they wait 2 months before sending you a check to make sure you don't back out of your aggreement with them.

To me it sounds like a cellphone problem if you bought it at a store I recommend you bring it back for them to check it. Your phone is also a GSM phone but I'm pretty sure seattle has great coverage for it. If you bought the thing online and thought it was a great deal your in for the surprise since you can only deal with AT&T directly and for a broken phone issue most of the time you have email correspondance only.

Note to everyone including Slit: If you ever have a problem like this and you bought the phone from a dealer bring the bill into the dealer. We have numbers to call that get us a CS agent usually in 5 seconds. The quality of service is uncompairible to regular CS'. Some guy once brought in a phone bill for $1300 and we were able to get it talked all the way down to $300.

They Sl56 is not the most powerful phone in the GSM line-up. It is a type 5 which can provide very weak service unless you are in pretty strong coverage. Go with either the Nokia or The Motorola V400-600 units. They usally do a great Job. Sony Ericson is putting out thier first class 4 in the next 60 days that so far it has preformed very well on Cingular & At&t network. It will replace the t616.
