    Cingular does suck

A firend of mine has been billed and overbilled by cingular, AND had her contract extended by a year without her knowledge of it. She was finally able to get rid of the extra charges, but she ended up without a phone, and now she is using an old nokia until her contract runs out in half a year.

As far as $3000 goes, they can take cingular to court without a lawyer. All they have to do is go to small claims court (they can sue for up to 5000). With all the billing errors documented etc, they can easily get 3000. And they should also sue for their time spent fixing this problem as well as financial losses due to ruined credit. The total for that will probably come to 5000, (although financial losses will be hard to proove, but time spend is easy, since all the customer service calls are logged + reasonable to assume that they spent time preparing for the calls)

Regarding the operators name, a lot of the time there is a log of when you called and who you talked to attached to your account (i know when i call verizon they always know when i called last time, and probably can even say who i talked to). And what happened to the "your call will be recorded..." -- this means that they have a copy of all the calls made (which means it can be subpoenaed in court). And if they don't, , people calling customer support looking for confrontation should record the call. As long as they inform the representative that the call is being recorded, it's admissible in court

I'm one of the rare people I find who uses Cingular and is not full of complaints. Believe it or not, in almost two years on their service, I've only had one bad customer service experience, which was easily solved by hanging up, calling back, and speaking with another representative. My reception is decent everywhere I go (I frequently move around between Orange County, San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties, the San Bernardino mountains, and sometimes even the Bay Area, Sac town, and Tahoe. My only complaint is reception underground and sometimes inside buildings (1900MHz frequency by nature does not travel through walls very well, but I deal with it). Although from the experiences of most people around me, nobody has happy dealings with Cingular. So they do suck :P
    I guess I'm just lucky
The only reason i haven't had my phone surgically attached to my head is the difficulty i would have transfering ringtones/graphics to it in that position.

I work for customer service for cingular, you guys are really idiots. Just because all of you aren't accepted into the wireless welfare program you can't be mad. If your tv breaks, will you call your cable company for a new tv??? NO so don't call cingular when your phone breaks, you're sol. You think CS is so rude, try dealing with 50+ idiots daily which half can't even turn their phones on right. The more you ask for credit, it's guaranteed that you aren't getting it... so don't be greedy and rude when you call into us. And if you think you can call into customer service and tell us you're wrong.... think again. You are the one calling into US for help. If you really are done wrong, we will acknowledge that and help you, but if you call into us screaming because You went over your minutes we will not help you. It's a company and if you were in head of it you would say the same thing... NO.

I have been using Verizon for the last four years. SBC/Yahoo is my Internet and land line provider. I called them regarding my telephone bill. The representative told me about the cellular phone deals they have to offer through Cingular. My phone came in the mail yesterday. I have not activated it yet. After reading the many complaints on this message board about Cingular--from receiving unexpected high bills to poor reception--, I will be sending that phone back pronto! This makes me glad to have the Internet, as I can research services, etc. before agreeing to them.

I work in Sales for Cingular Wireless, and think you need to give them a chance. The problems customers are having can be experienced with any company. True, some people will hate Cingular, others will love it. I'm not sure what company you plan to go to, if not Cingular, but the only comparable company is Verizon. You can go to www.plantfeedback.com and check out all the complaints against Verizon. You'll see similar customer service complaints, billing errors, poor reception, as you see here on this forum against Cingular.

If you're looking for that perfect wireless carrier, you're not going to find it. You could have a problem with any given carrier, on any given day

Watch out for cingular/at&t, i was an employee for a few years. The mafia has better business practice than these guys. The slamming of features is commonplace with the salespeople as well as cust care, its an easy way to make money, and sadly enough most people never really look at thier bill. Hopefully the industry will clean up and make a better name for itself in the future.

If I tilt my phone a certain way in my dorm room the reception just cuts out. How cheap is that. Stupid Cingular.
Gee.. Lets blame cingular because your trying to use your phone behind the 3 solid feet of brick wall that is your dorm room... Cingular's stupid?

do you really think the operator you are talking to really cares if you take cingular to court or not? and if you ask them for their name, how do you now they are giving you their real name? and if you ask them to transfer your to their manager, what tells you he/she is the real manager?
Why would you want to tell the customer service rep that you are taking them to court? Wouldnt your lawyer send cingular a letter?? wow... there are some bright bulbs posting in this thread who obviously have no clue as to what they are talking about..

so finally, when you take them to court and you win, you end up paying more to your lawer than what cingular says you owe...
Another winner here in this flamewar! Since when do you end up paying your lawyer anything when you win? I have gone to small claims twice and they took their fees out of my settlement winnings. I still got a big return on it.. most layers take a percentage out or dont take the case if they dont think you are going to win..

Thank you. Finally somebody who posts with some background.. I think this person said it best... Cingular's not stupid.. some of their customers are..

So everybody who complains about their service, go ahead and switch to another service... you will probably find more of the same.. is it because the new service is stupid too?? hmmm think about it.

My cingular service has been so-so but I'm definitely switching to another service in 2 months when my contract is up. I'm still not decided between T-mobile and Verizon though.

If the cable company sold me the TV you bet I'd call them first (assuming I'm still under warranty, damage was due to manufacturer error). I'll admit a lot of people probably call in who dropped their phones or something not manufaturer defect, and yes, they are idiots to expect a new, free replacement.

As far as people complaining about coverage, the phone can make a big difference. Phones have different RF capabilities so try a new phone. There is no carrier that has great coverage in every corner of the country so it also depends on where you live.
Those who complain about large bills, after a little investigating usually end up admitting they went over their minutes or data. In that case they owe the money and should be better at keeping track of their spending. JMHO.
