Look into the Microsoft Knowledge Base. There is a page describing how to make a new serial.

Yes all you need is to use XPkey.exe to generate a new serial that's all you need to keep the SP1 from screwing your xp install

I have the xp keygen but none of the keys have worked for me. even without sp1 windows wont accept any of them. I've tried a little over 100 keys (and boy was it painstaking) for home edition and 40 keys for pro. none worked.

Interesting...check the official Microsoft Knowledge Database to find out how to circumvent their security methods...

Why would you want to change the CD-Key?

i changed the cd key, worked for me
then of course i got a blue screen immediately after reboot every time, but that was an incompatibility between sp1 and the nvidia drivers, and fixed with new drivers a few days later

There are XP Corporate Installation images around that have SP1 integrated.

the keygens work... just takes a hella long time... but in the end once you change the key you should be able to upgrade just fine
