I just rebuilt my pc with everything new and I installed Sonar XL but when I went to open it it said sonar has detected one or more sound cards do not have stereo and will be set on mono, but then it freezes. I have a Trident 4Dwave-dx card. Can ne one tell me what is happening

Right - or a modem with voice?
If you don't use them - turn them off.

I think the fellas are right - it's quite likely you've got an integrated sound card on your motherboard. Try reading your motherboard manual to see how to disable onboard sound. Once you do that, you should be okay. Write back if that doesn't help.

Can you give any other facts?

-Does sound function properly in Windows?
-Do you get any strange messages while booting?
-Is there some type of control panel type applet that you can access to verify functionality of the hardware?
-Have you tried reading about "troubleshooting" info in the sound card manual?
-Have you tried installing the card in a different (PCI, I assume) slot?
-Anything else that might bear on the issue of the card itself not playing nicely with others?

We'll try and help, but probably need more info to go on. Cheers!

    Thanks - good info.

I'll admit to not being an experienced tech support person, but have mucked around enough in hardware to know some of the things that can go wrong.

If windows sound works okay, that indicates that the basic functionality is intact - probably no funky IRQ conflicts, etc., if those even still exist in this age of brainy OS's.

Booting properly indicates that the hardware+drivers think everything is okay. A good sign in terms of software configuration.
I'm assuming that your PC does not freeze due to sound issues in any other applications that you're aware of?

No manual? Bad, bad. Perhaps there is reference material online? Aha: PDF Manual for Trident 4DWave-DX. Oops, that's a bit technical. A moment... This might be more useful, not a manual, but a tech support page - Juvio tech support. I'm sure they'll want money. Lemme keep looking... Here're some drivers: Trident Drivers. Hrm, where's the damn manufacturer page...

It occurs to me I haven't asked what OS you're running?

    C'mon google...
Trident Tech Support for Dummies No offense naleca, I hate these things called "for dummies" in general, but if it could help with your problem... *shrug* I hope you've already got drivers, it sounds like they want to charge for driver CDs.

    More in a bit perhaps.
