i just got a drawing tablet for my comp and i absolutely love it. for those of you who dont know what it is, picture drawing on a piece of paper with a normal pen but it all being an input device for the comp like a mouse.

so heres my question. if anyone else on here is into graphic design for either work or play, do you have a tablet? if so, what kind and what programs do you use?

as for me, i use corelDRAW/ photoshop cs at work, and photoshop/ illustrator / 3ds max (just learning)/ flash at home.

It's good if you use mainly for graphic. It is not so convenience with web design though cuz you have to go back and forth between your keyboard (to do the coding) and to edit graphic. It is not so easy to put it down...maybe I just need a bigger table lol.

I am still looking for mouse keyboard program then it will be sweet.

I mainly use Fireworks, Photoshop, sometimes corel for brochures and leaftlet.

I suggest you to use Macromedia Freehand and to animate your creations with Flash!

Good idea. I pretty much use everything Adobe has put out... and about anything else I can get my hands on as far as the latest technology goes... I tend to use my mouse with my stylus ...it works really well and my employees have a nearly identical set-up...

I use Adobe Photoshop and an old photo program... I've heard great things about Freehand from the Art teacher in my building!!

The pen-pad is WELL worth it for a person like me... I have terrific small-motor-muscle skills but when I draw with the mouse any three year old could rival it... I have an old Wacom that you couldn't get me to give up for the world... it works far better than the touchpad on the laptop too (as evidenced by my Xmas avatar... the end was created with the touchpad and looks crappy compared to the beginning).

Have FUN with it and enjoy yourself!!

I love my old Wacom too Jeanie! I even have a newer model but I keep going back to the first one I got... but you'll have your doubters out there too... some folks absolutely hate Wacom pads...

The animations are really quite simple with CS... Illustrator CS is amazing as well... upgrade if you haven't already and are in the graphic arts or just don't want to pay somebody else $60 an hour to do it for you! I like Macromedia products as well... very powerful and easy to get started with it...

and I must admit I like to use all the little cheapy software I picked up over the years as well... just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's not good! Also, along those lines... programs like Corel can be saved as Adobe Illustrator and such... and it works just a bit different so it depends really on what you like and what makes sense to you...
If you haven't already Adobe offers trial versions of most of their most popular products so try them out.

the cheapies are often worth it.... when I just have a simple cut and paste job I more often open my MGI photosuite that came packaged with ... something?? ... and that coffeecup.com gif animation proggy is TOO easy to use.... (And it cost less than the book I bought to help me learn flash )

Yeah... Coffeecup at what $30 or less? ...can be used for most jobs and it's so easy to use... it can be limiting for some applications though.
Great for avatars though! I used it to create mine from a photograph!
