Looking for a new monitor. What are the state of LCDs with games these days? Have they improved the refresh or should i just pick up a CRT just wait another year or two?

For me; hand down a CRT. Here's why.
The first and foremost advantage is cost. Dollar for dollar, it is possible to get a larger and better display buying a CRT monitor when compared to an LCD screen.
CRTs also have multisync capability. This allows the electron gun inside the tube to adjust itself to various resolutions and refresh rates. This is very desirable if you have any need to display multiple resolutions. Games are a common area where multiple resolutions are useful. New games that may tax your computer at higher resolutions can be scaled down to lower resolutions.
The high refresh rates and response times of CRT monitors also makes them ideal for video purposes. Since the tubes are based on the same technology that is used in television sets, it makes sense that the video display of a monitor is better able to reproduce the fluid motion of video playback on the CRT.
Finally, the color clarity of CRT monitors cannot be matched by an LCD screen. With the myriad of adjustments that can be made to the contrast, brightness and hues, CRT monitors are better able to represent actual document colors.
Of course, all these advantages do have their drawbacks as well. The biggest drawback is the bulkiness or size. If you have the area, CRT is the way to go.

well I love my LCD screens I have 2 in the house, and my brother ahs one in college. We haven't had any burn out yet, they cost about 300-400 dollars for one like mine. I ahven't had any dead pixels, I play counter-strike I ahve played some quake3 and a bunch of other games, and I don't feel a probelem with the refresh rate

Like you said you paid 300-400 for it, if ya are willing to pay high, you wont be dissapointed, but theres a lot of cheap ones that just arn't worth the money.

Also, have you put a CRT and a LCD to any kind of comparison test. You will notice a vast difference. Why pay the three or four hundred extra? Get a NEC MultiSync 90 CRT and take a couple hundred of the saved money, buy a nice graphic's card, and your ahead 3 ways. You have a better monitor, a nice graphic's card, and you still have some money in your pocket.
Then again....I could be wrong huh?

LCDs have improved alot, depends what you are looking for. refresh rate wise they have become quite quick. but for price CRT's are a better deal. depends on how clean you want your desk to look. alot of people dont care about looks and want performance, but im an apple fan so guess what i prefer.

CrT. Picked up a 19" insignia CRT monitor at BestBuy today for about $100 (after mail in rebate)
If u get LCD of good quailty, you're looking to spend at least 4x's that

LCD all the way. The dell 20'1 inch is still on top of the maximumpc listing. there are some even faster now. I've had it for almost a year and it runs hl2, doom 3, cz, cs source for more hours a day than I am willing to admit. You need to remember refresh rates do not work the same with lcd and crt. What you need to look for is response time not refresh rate. I run cz and cs source at 1600 x 1200, 75 hz refresh and all settings maxed out and I get a constant 240 - 300 fps according to the netgraph display. I have no problem with dead pixels, tearing, smearing, nothing. It's over 20 inches of heaven and I don't need 3 friends to carry it and I still have a desk I can use. Did I mention no need for a screen saver, no burn in, low heat, can hang it on a wall, can flip it to display portrait. Also check into microsofts text display addition for lcds, clear text? I think. I does wonders for text.
