ad-aware, spy-bot, microsoft anti-spy for scanners
sypwareblaster for prevention, as well as not using IE and setting up custom cookie handling. I can't remember the last time a scan actually found something! lol

rogierr you can also try using multiple ones that people have mentioned above. Sometimes one program will pick up something another one missed.

You all forgot about the best one
SPY SWEEPER by Webroot Software (look for the green box).
My friend says that the people that make spyware are mostly the companes that sell the anti-spyware software just to make money. And I believe him.

Got to use multiple tools:
I use Microsoft anti-spyware, Adaware, Spybot S&D, and Norton 2005. Then I run Crap Cleaner, Registry Mechanic and Disc Defrag. No less than once a week.If you find this post helpful, click on bottom of each post: Like l Share

I use Spybot, Adaware, and AVG from Grisoft. Also check the processes in Task Manager for any weird programs that shouldn't be running (if not sure about some, doing a search for the program name will usually tell you what it is). One more thing is to check your startup programs by running msconfig.

every year i upgrade to the newest version of norton internet security, and they started including spyware protection last year, which was kind of mediocre at best, but this year for 2006 they have greatly improved it and it catches a lot of the spyware junk automatically as soon as it gets in. still, i use ad-aware in addition to norton's protection and i have never had a problem. be very careful if you use spybot, its a great program but i advise against all the automatice run-in-background settings because spybot took control of itself on my pc one time and i couldnt make it stop!
